Muahaha!

Just not sure of what the hell I'm going to do with the covers...:dunno

Also debating about ordering centercaps, and debating about trading the like-new Michelin Pilot Alpins for high-performance all-seasons...

Decisions, decisions. Over break I'm going to be refinishing them myself, polishing the lip.

Cool! Now, dibs on the all the turbine wheel parts if you are thinking about selling.

Yeah, I'll either hang 'em up on my wall or sell them. The turbines need a bit of refinishing.

You got dibs, just trying to figure out how much they're worth.

I was with my friend whos got a 2005 volvo s40 t5 with a bsr chip. This thing will throw you back in your seat! After we got done with a few runs from roll, we pulled up to my cousin's place and the volvo guy left his car running to let it cool down. He said it had something to do with improving the life of the turbo. Just thought you might wanna know or investigate cause i'm not sure how letting it cool improves the life of the turbo. Anybody know?

TurBINEs, not TurBOs. A Turbine is a somewhat rare, ugly or beautiful wheel from the E34 M5. You decide:

^ with a set of wheels like that it has to be fast....

What are your possible plans for the rims? Bare, polished with TStar covers or machine lip finish

All these look great on an Alpine IMO

Since I'm Alpine III, I'm going to just run the black 5 spokes. The wheels need refinishing (used for snow by the PO of VentoGT's car) so I was planning on polishing the lips myself, just not sure what to do about the rash.

So black centers with polished lips. Probably BFG G-Force Sport tires.

I have a bit less money than planned...I was going to do TStar covers but am now pinching pennies, so want to at least do the black centers look until I get a job in the summer.

atl530i: Pics coming tomorrow. They came with good Pilot Alpin snows, but selling those for summer tires, then will sell my basketweaves.

every time i have seen the turbine covers for sale they have not been for very much... they aren't typically coveted.

Turbo bearings are cooled by engine oil. The turbo itself gets very hot when run hard, and the engine oil is the only thing that cools it down. If a turbo car is shut down without a cool down period the center bearing, being very hot, will cook the engine oil that it is in contact with, forming a varnish. Enough buildup and the bearing will fail, requiring a new/rebuilt turbo

Sure will! Just did a 300 mile drive with them in the backseat and the trunk...wish to hell I had a Touring.

I'm selling the Michelin Pilot Alpins and getting a high-performance all-season or summer tire, not sure.

I've got to refinish them...taking them out tonight and inspecting them, and will see if I can do this myself or if I have to pay to have it done.

Also debating about doing the BMW centercaps or not...

Something you may want to consider is painting the turibines white to match your car--kinda late 80s, I know, but there is a pic floating around of an e30 M3, alpine with white painted Turbines, and it looks the tits....I'll poke around and try to find it.

That has to be the first M5 I've seen in my life with whitewalls...

doesn't have whitewalls...

I know, but it sure looks like it, lol.

I think most people just ditched them and went aftermarket or with another factory wheel?

With those covers the wheels look tiny; like 15".

Yeah, I've seen the E30 M3 with white turbines...I love 80's stuff but didn't care for it. I'm certainly ditching the covers...either sell them to Grim Reaper or hange them up on my wall as art. I think they're sweet, just ugly.

I spent all day trying to find a Torx set that will fit the bolts attaching the covers to the wheel, only to search Bf.C after the fact and find that I need the elusive 6mm "triple square" 12 sided Torx bit. Gonna try to find that tommorrow. If no luck, I'll just have to order it. At least the bolts have been soaking in WD40 all day.

White turbines?... YUCK!!!

Though I have seen them powdercoated dark grey that looked nice w/ polished wheel lips.:D

Well, the problem with grey wheels on white is that they look like they're coated with brake dust even when they're perfectly clean...doubt my car could pull that off even when just washed.

So I'm just going to run the black 5-spokes. Question is: Should I do the BMW roundel centercaps or just not have centercaps?

I liked mine without centercaps. I've seen a couple with and they just didn't look like they belonged

Yeah, I think they may look better without centercaps. I'll just get them on the car and decide for myself.
