View Full Version : access thru to the trunk ??
fish4stripers 12-19-2006, 05:46 PM 96 328i convertible- Looking at manual and it seems like there's an optional skibag. When I look all I see is a square plastic plug about 7" square. It seems to fit really tight.
I wanted to pop it out and see how skis or fishing rods would fit. Does it just pop out? Which way do I push? I'm thinking it pushes into the interior but can't see a lip/edge to be sure.
Appreciate the help
thanks
882001 12-19-2006, 06:42 PM pull the back of the seat and take the 4 torx bolts out of the front of the skipass and the whole thing will pull out lift the little flaps with a screwdriver and pull it appart. 5 min job
fish4stripers 12-20-2006, 04:21 PM Do you pull the whole back of the seat? I pulled out the small middle section and all I see is a big 7" square plastic panel. No torx screws in sight.
nyisles328ic 12-20-2006, 06:02 PM Yeah just pull the whole back-seats off, they pretty much jsut snap out unless you have head-rests in which case you need to pull both of those out and then the rear seats will snap out.
Oh, and if you have the HK premium sound system be aware that there is a subwoofer where the pass through is. That is my problem.
If you're a skiier there is also a ski rack that your dealer can get for you for $450 (if i remember correctly).
bigbilly 12-20-2006, 06:53 PM A ski rack for a convertible? Where does it attach? Or do you put it on your hardtop... :)
Oh, and when you go to take off the headrests (if you have them), it can be a b*tch. Try rocking them side-to-side and forward-and-back while pulling up. They'll come out eventually.

What plug? Do you mean you don't have the skiback of now?
I mean, I have the skipass and sack. People here are talking about taking seats out?
I just remove the small seperate piece on the rear bench to access the skihatch, where the bag is nicely folded away and from the trunk there's a plastic lid that fold upwards and is then held by a magnet.

I don't think it was called that over here.
I mean, I don't have headlight washer jets/heated jets, nor heated doorlocks...
It was just taken as a "single" option. (well skibag is, I thought the actual pass-through was stock, since verts don't have folding backseats).
Very handy one though!
But I do think all verts have that "loose" piece in the middle of the rear backrests.
So what is this "plug" then? Like a small pass-through?
882001 12-21-2006, 10:34 AM its just a plug that snaps to the back of the tunnel. from the trunk it just looks like a carpeted trunk. with no pass thru.
fish4stripers 01-02-2007, 12:47 PM Sorry, been away. I dont have the skibag. Its just a plastic plug that wont come out. I tapped both ways with a rubber mallet but it doesnt seem to want to budge. I'll have to take a pic to see if anyone has removed one.
tvij122 01-21-2007, 02:32 AM yea, im looking to take this mind out, does any have a step by step for this?
jorbon 01-21-2007, 02:49 AM I recall some torx bolts too- My car wasn't equipped with the ski bag, I just looked into where the passthrough is one day and decided to pull out the plug for a little more flexibility in carrying stuff... As for a step by step, the guy who said pull the seat, unbolt the plate and you're done said it best.
