View Full Version : Picked up Whitey today :)
Antrieb 12-18-2006, 09:26 PM So today my brother and I made the 5 hour drive down to CT to pick up the new 535i 5-speed. It was a great day and only drizzled the first couple hours.
The car was bought sight unseen so I had no idea what I was getting into. My first impression was good. The car was in the garage, the paint was shiny and smooth, and the owner was a CCA member. Everything worked great on the car and it doesn’t feel like it needs anything. The engine was powerful, he had tons of documentations, it came with everything under the sun, and it looked great. I couldn’t be more pleased :)

angrypancake 12-18-2006, 09:29 PM damn you were on 84? I live not even 2 minutes from the newburgh beacon bridge..... the exit right before you get on the thruway. should've called my ass. did you guys run the cars?
Felixdacat 12-18-2006, 09:29 PM You guys were racing in the last pic weren"t you?
atl530i 12-18-2006, 09:30 PM Ah Hartford... What a dump.
Nice 535i.
Fastx525ixGuy 12-18-2006, 09:31 PM Damn, looks very clean. What mirrors does it have?
brosher 12-18-2006, 09:33 PM Glad things worked out for ya. For some reason I thought you already had the thing!
White narrow-body E34 is just a classic look.
atl530i 12-18-2006, 09:34 PM For some reason I thought you already had the thing!
Haha, I thought the same thing.
Antrieb 12-18-2006, 09:35 PM Of course we ran the cars!
<o:p> </o:p>
0-30 the m30 wins it here
<o:p> </o:p>
0-60 the m30 was half a CL ahead of the m60 but the m60 was inching forward
<o:p> </o:p>
60-80 in 3rd gear was dead even
<o:p> </o:p>
60-100 starting in 3rd gear the m60 started creeping towards the end
<o:p> </o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
An interesting note; the m60 got 24mpg average on the way back and the m30 got 33mpg average. I thought the m30’s gas mileage was horrid?
angrypancake 12-18-2006, 09:36 PM 33mpg wtf? i've never seen that, ever, unless on a 40 mile downhill with cruise control on
Antrieb 12-18-2006, 09:40 PM Damn, looks very clean. What mirrors does it have?
Old mirrors
Antrieb 12-18-2006, 09:41 PM 33mpg wtf? i've never seen that, ever, unless on a 40 mile downhill with cruise control on
Thats what I was thinking too, but they were both the average over a 300 mile trip :dunno Maybe its calibrated wrong?
e34werkz 12-18-2006, 09:41 PM What's planned for the alpine?
Antrieb 12-18-2006, 09:44 PM What's planned for the alpine?
The usual with m-pars and 540i ducts most likely. This one will see F/I also.

Baller. Seems like you're up on your e34 game. Good luck with them all.
atl530i 12-18-2006, 09:50 PM Nice. You going to install mtech side skirts and paint the lowers also?
brosher 12-18-2006, 09:52 PM Need to calculate that average MPG by hand to be sure.
Check this link for calibration instructions:

It's not quite written in english but you can figure it out. ;)
The average fuel consumption value can be calibrated from the OBC. Function 20 is used for this.
Fill the fuel tank to the maximum. Reset the day trip counter. Run the fuel tank nearly empty and fill the fuel tank again to the maximum. This will give you the fuel consumption. New Correction Value = Old Correction Value * OBC Fuel consumption (in MPG or l/100Km) / Actual Fuel Consumption (in MPG or l/100Km)
or
New Correction Value = Old Correction Value * OBC Fuel consumption (in MPG or l/100Km) / Actual Fuel Consumption (in MPG or l/100Km)
Please let me know which one, I didn't check.

Yeah, but I hope I don't get in over my head. I just bought this because it was a good deal and these are getting hard to come by. I'm going to finish the 530i first before I start on the 535i. The Red one is getting the heart of this car :devillook http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1994-BMW-540i-Black-automatic_W0QQitemZ220059462386QQihZ012QQcategoryZ 6783QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

SC David 12-18-2006, 10:04 PM You know it's good when it doesn't break down on your first trip home :)
Congrats! Sounds like a great car.
4500 RPM 12-18-2006, 10:07 PM You sure you don't want those Borbet Type As on there?
sirtiger 12-18-2006, 10:08 PM excellent... curious how long did it take you to find it? I really love e34s
clevertd 12-18-2006, 10:16 PM What kind of gearing is in the 530i? I know the 535i has 3.46 stock.
atl530i 12-18-2006, 10:16 PM Nice find, that's saved :)
Hasn't been updated in almost 7 years though...
J.Bimmer 12-18-2006, 10:39 PM Clean looking car man, nice pickup.
konarider98 12-18-2006, 10:48 PM Awesome 535, i almost bought that 540ia in boston. its 20 mins away from me but i needed a title. it was 500 one day on boston CL:eek: change the 3.46 to a 3.91 and get instant pep, then it could prolly take your 530.
Nutbeem 12-18-2006, 11:32 PM I love it - it looks just like my last 535i 5 speed. How many miles?
MMmmmpower 12-19-2006, 12:12 AM Sweet looking ride, its always nice to see another beauty alpine
Redfive 12-19-2006, 12:27 AM Ah Hartford... What a dump.
Nice 535i.
Hey. Some of us have to deal with that dump everyday. Its been getting much better over the last couple years.
Antrieb, the car looks good. You were about 10 minutes from my house just before you got to Hartford. I could have shown you the beast (even though its headless).
I take it your brother doesn't want the RXs.

I'm sure it has changed since I lived there. I also lived in Springfield for 8 years. All I can say is the suburbs are great, but downtown and the 'X' needed some work when I was there. I don't even remember if the Blakes was there or not when I left.
shragon 12-19-2006, 02:10 AM cool, another e34!
flyeryan 12-19-2006, 02:23 AM holy shit Zac, how many E34s do you/have you owned?! you lucky bastard! The 3.5 w/ 5 speeds is fun, isn't it? I love the sound of mine at about 4-5k rpm on an onramp... sounds amazing IMO.
525iT_Feen 12-19-2006, 02:27 AM Nice! congrats. I need to start a e34 project of my own soon.
Antrieb 12-19-2006, 02:59 AM You sure you don't want those Borbet Type As on there?
Yeah I'll probably pick these up too, can't have too many wheels!
excellent... curious how long did it take you to find it? I really love e34s
Well I stumbled across it actually. AngryPancake sent me the link to the add and I called the guy the same day.
What kind of gearing is in the 530i? I know the 535i has 3.46 stock.3.07. Won't matter much though when I put in the 4.0L :devillook
Nice find, that's saved :)
Hasn't been updated in almost 7 years though...Ha I have one of those folders :)
I love it - it looks just like my last 535i 5 speed. How many miles?180kmi and well taken care of miles.

Ohh too bad I would have loved to stop by. This was kind of a spur of the moment pickup of the car, no idea it was going to happen today until Sunday night. I'll get in contact with you about some of the stuff you have. I'll probably still even take the wheels :)
