longs story short, i have the chance to buy and 85 535 M?
ive never seen one so ill explain a bit
the car has a basic m30 3.5l m-technic bumpers, skirt and wing, m- shift knob, beige cloth seats with the m- colered pins
on the drivers side door jam there is a badge, it read
b.m.w (you know the long version)
imported by robert w guinn
the guys telling me there where only 1400 made like this,
he seams very honest but not too knowledgable about the "rare" car he owns
it is mechanicly sound, 198k on the clock, head was replaced
bilstien hd's and some sort of exhaust,
so my question is, should i jump on this thing for 3500? or let it slide,
it would strictly be a minor investment, nothing more.
thanks, rob

bought it, pics up!!
odo doesnt work (great i know) also 4500 redline, perhapes this is a replacment "e" part?

It could be an M535i, which is a pretty rare and valuable car. Search the internet for M535i and you should find a ton of info.

If it's real, and in good shape, $3500 is a good price.

bmwe28boy has a real E28 M535. It is beautiful. He posted on the first page of highest hp from an M30. He could probably help you identify, but is rarely on here.

Hey, I happen to be on here today. The vin # will tell you if it is a M535i. It should either be a DC51, 61, 71, or 81. If it has an importer sticker in the door jamb, it would be a european import. M535i.org has a lot of info on these cars. If it is in rough shape, $3,500 sounds about right as long as it is driveable and not too much of a basket case.

Holy crap, buy it. It's real, and cloth sport seats = super rare. That car is worth a lot of money.

How can a 535 only have a 4500rpm tach? The eta engine came with a 4500rpm tach, as in 528e. Looks like a 528e with an engine transplant...:shifty

Well, I don't know what you consider a lot of money? From the looks of the limited pictures, I would estimate value to be between $4k-$5k. If the VIN is correct and I expect that it is, it is a true euro M535i w/ low compression motor and Kat. Check the body panels for VIN #'s as well. You should find a build sheet under the rear seat, it will show all options fitted to the car. It is also interesting to note that the wrong instrument cluster was fitted to this car so there is no way of knowing the true mileage, although the m30 is a very stout motor and if it feels strong than you shouldn't have any worries. Nice snag, you got it for a very good price, now let the fun begin and let the $$$ role into it and you will end up with a very nice and desireable car.

Also, from the picture of the IC, it looks as though it is running a bit on the warm side. You might keep an eye on that and flush the system.

Good luck and welcome to the club. Lots of help and good info on http://mye28.com
