Now it isn't ever day you run into a Testarossa. I was on NW Highway near Inwood Rd when I ran into this beauty. It was an 85 or 86 wasn't too sure but it definitely wasn't the 512TR. The guy was eyeing my car closely and we were both at the light next to one another with no traffic in front. He revved his engine just as the light was turning and I figured I would give it a go. Not that I expected much except to be decimated. I was suprised that I kept with him perfectly (in fact dare I say I was about 1/2 CL ahead of him at about 30 though I am guessing on that just remembering I was suprised I was ahead of him shifting into 2nd). He shut it down around 60-70 mph and so did I and we just cruised next to one another for about 3 lights. At the next light I gave him a thumbs up and he smiled back. All I can say is even after 20 years this car is just amazingly beautiful and fast and that engine sounds so sweet.

nice kill , i think those yrs were like mid to high 5 sec 0-60 cars , so yeah you are faster . they are still sexy cars and im sure he was content keeping up with a 20 yr younger M

lol I don't think they are quite 30 years old yet. I believe they came out in '85 with 390?hp and weigh around 35-3600. You should be able to hold one off unless you are going 100+mph

I've beaten a 348 in my M roadster once. But Testarossa is an amazing car even today. I am sure your car is faster but if you were in the highway he might be faster or might be very close. Good kill, I bet that was worth every penny you spend on that M of your.

There is a black Testarossa TT here in Kennesaw, GA that is pushing about 900hp. I would hate to come accross that one on the highway. The guy was trying to sell it for around 80K but I didn't have the cash if I did I would have jumped on that. But I was lucky enough to briefly drive it once and that was the most amazing car I have ever driven in my life. Too cramped inside but what power omg.

Yeah, the they're not that fast by today's standards. But in the 80's, that was the car to have. Even today I sure wouldn't turn one down. The intake designs on the door panels are sweet.

Yeah, the they're not that fast by today's standards.

M coupe is definately a quick car, and being able to keep up with it definately makes the 'rossa fast by even todays standards.

Nice kill.

Great cars, I remember sitting in a Testarossa when I was a child.

Gearbox: 5-speed manual
Weight: 1505kg
Top speed: 180/182mph
0-60mph: 5.4s

Testarossa pulls real hard up top due to its big motor. Down low its a slug. If it was an earlier one it would have had only one drivers side mirror up high (pic below). I dont know of anyone with an M Z4 but how is it in comparison to the recent M roadster?

Driven06Z4M

The Z4 M is very comparable to the S54 Z3M Roadster but has just a tad bit more power, a bit more weight, and in my opinion handles a bit better. It is also more refined in my opinion. However, that doesn't mean it is a "better" car than the Z3M S54 just different. I bet the Z3M because of its lighter weight could be a tenth quicker to 60 but I am not too sure how it behaves on the top end because I was only in my friend's a few times before he killed his engine mis-shifting racing a WRX on I75. He down shifted from 4th to 2nd. Ouch! Good bye valves.

As for Z4M being a quick car. It is a very quick car just not in a straight line so much. In my neighborhood there must be at least a 1/2 dozen Gallardos alone and many more Ferraris and Porsches. Heck, even and old 308 that a guy seems to drive as his daily driver (I see it almost every day getting on the Tollway). The Z4 M is definitely the slow kid on my block. Fortunately most of them are older (white hair) and drive their cars like grannies. That means I get to drive next to them longer oogling their super beasts. Too many old farts with lots of oil money...gotta love Texas. The guy in the Testarossa was probably in his early 40s and frankly I was suprised he wanted to have a little fun. Hope I see him again.

What the fuck...How do you downshift from fourth to second accidentally? I mean I can see maybe accidentally going into first if you are trying to trying to downshift to 3rd, but 2nd?

Your friend must be retarded.

Beautiful car by any standards (20 years ago or todays). I am green with envy. Maybe in the next few years I will be able to get me my first F-car. Even an older one would be better than most of the crap coming off the assembly lines these days from most manufacturers.

Agreed... My brother's TR has a Borla with no cats. Sounds sick with nice gain in power. Once you let off the gas in high rpms shoots a nice flame out the rear. I tend to turn the radio off when i drive it, exhaust tone is music to my ears...

There is a guy who brings his out to Road America all the time and puts it on the track. It really is a beautiful car but it wasn't much competition for my car. They look so fast and beautiful in person, todays standards though are just too high.

It was kind of funny watching it go around corners with that flat rear end. To watch it pitch around corners it just didn't look too graceful. I was suprised by the body roll of the car.

This guy who owns it shows up with a red Ferrari trailer and wears a F1 Ferrari race suit. He definitely gets into Ferrari.

Boston... I don't own a Z3. Look again at what I am driving. Z4 "M". Slight difference. And yes he was "on it." When the engine in a car next to me deafened me in my own car at WOT and I had the top down then he assuredly was on it. You ever been in an M Roadster at WOT with the top down? It isn't exactly very quiet.

There is a guy around here like that. Drives around with the top down wearing a Ferrari hat and a Ferrari jacket...except he's in a Panoz Esperante :confused

Poor car, its got Ferrari crests painted on the fenders and Ferrari badges on the front and rear. He even has custom "Ferrari" rims. :rolleyes

But why, for the price of that he could have easily gotten a nice used Ferrari and not been a complete tool. Or he could've been happy with the Panoz, they are considerably rarer than a Ferrari around here.

I said something to him while he was stopped at a light once and he looked away. Sadly his Panoz would still crush my folks' Porsche and embarrass my car.

Anyway, sweet kill.

You woulda had him in the twisties?

It's almost a shame to see a Testarossa in black, makes it harder to see those amazing lines (particularly those side intakes!) but I guess that's a good thing these days, driving a red Ferarri is one notch below punching a motorcycle cop in terms of getting attention from the police lol.

My car was the first modified by FNA for the Serie Speciale run of cars. It also has F40/F50 brakes and magnesium Challege wheels, CF seats, and a bunch of other one off things from Ferrari.

Ferraris are pricey to service....if you can't do your own work. I have done a couple of engine out majors on mine. ....I was into it for about $1200 in parts, and about 30 hours of work. It's not rocket science, but you do want to be careful and not make a $30,000 mistake!! That service at a dealer would run $5-7K, and at a good independent $3500-4000. The big one like that takes place every 5-7 years, so its not like this is an anual deal. If you were to put away $100/month in a Fcar service account...every 5 years you would have your service paid.

Every year you do fluids and general maintainance which isn't pricey. The one suggestion I have is never, ever, never, ever. And I mean Never!! Buy a cheap, undocumented Ferrari. Those are the cars that cause nightmares and cost a furtune to make correct.

.....and thanks for the compliments on the car.....I have had it for 16+ years, and it has been brilliant.

Ingenere,

How do you view performance/sportiness aspect of BMW in comparison to Ferraris?

I find the Ferraris are cars that need involvement, commitment and most of all skill to drive well...especially on a mountain road or the track. That is traditional Ferrari...Enzo wanted his cars to be driven by people who knew how to drive and he dispised the poseurs that mostly could afford his cars, but he did what he had to to build his company.

The M5 I owned, had a great motor, but that was it. I thought it handled like a pig. The M3 is a great all around sports car. If I am taking a street car to the track (and I don't feel like being totally committed as with the Fcars)...the M3 is a great choice. I find it a beautifully well balanced package.

The Ferraris are always an event...the sounds, looks, smells, driving position and skills involved. The M3 is just a great drivers car. I have no problem leaving Boxters, Caymans, most 911s, and most Fcars with it (even a 360 Challenge Stradale)...on mtn roads and race tracks.

Apology accepted. There are alot of people out there that think that one is either doing something illegal or they inherited money...and they totally exclude any possibility of hard work.
