Today I am coming back from a great weekend from the mountains and this Maxima comes revving next to me. I say ok if you wanna go I am always ready for some fun so I downshift to 3rd. in the wide open hwy. and he does too..Before I know it 4th he is ahead and still pulling and then 5th he is still pulling I was WTF?. At the end he was aahead by at least 10 CL's. He slowes donw he is smiling I am not the kind that gets upset just because he has a faster car so I give him a surprised look and tumbs up. He then told me it was supercharged. But this thing looked total stock with a fartcan but it beat my M3 like it was nothing. Burned.

I love the e46M3 for its looks and handling...had one but sold it.
It's a car that whose style and power plant are now about 7 years old and those 3.5L maximas are no slouch.
250hp/250tq IIRC

Maximas, atleast the newer ones anyway, aren't slow. And boosted... yea it was probably at 400hp.

Some Mexican dude he was so happy that he was faster my M3. It was the previous body style too. Just plain black car looks so average with some after market cheesy crome wheels and a fartcan but the thing was fast. My car had a remus exaust, pulleys, K&N intake, and download. So, it's close to stock. Next I will get the headers and the cat delete thing done. But it seems like I will need a SC. very soon to keep up with the crowd. Dammmm

This is a joke.

Why the hell would I joke about getting beat to an old Maxima.

Why the hell would I joke about getting beat to an old Supercharged, lighter-than-the-current-generation Maxima.

Fixed.

Which model Maxima was it? The newer one or the older one (guessimate the year)?

My roomate actually had a supercharger on his '97 Maxima (older model, 3.0L engine). That thing was quick. He put down about 265whp/275wtq and his car weighed just a tad over 3000lbs. This was before he swapped out pullies and upped the boost. He was probably making way over 300whp and even more wtq after the raising the boost.

Those cars are deceptively quick, especially boosted ones. Honorable loss. :)

Well, not surprised, since you have a cab. :P

I am sorry to say but that's a dumb statement.

The M3cab vs. M3coupe are very very close and it would depend on the driver. For your info the only difference is about 300lbs. and when you are on the highway doing a run from 75mph. to 140mph. or so is not going to gain 10 cl's because the coupe is 300lbs. lighter. The Maxima was faster then the M3 cab. and it would also have beaten the M3 coupe just as bad because it had much more power not because it weighed 300lbs. less. Also I think the remus exaust, pulleys, K&N intake, and download make up that 300lbs. extra weight.

last time i checked 300 lbs does make a difference. like as in a second in the 1/4. i mean thats just physics right there. and maybe your mods make it up, and yes you may have still lost in a coupe with the same mods. but wtf do you think saying it doesnt make a difference?

Well speaking from experience...I have an 02 Maxima 6spd...from a stop you would have smoked him. I cant get mine to hookup on a hard launch, and its stock, it just smokes the tires...which are more expensive than my M3s by the way.

According to maxima.org 475hp is common. Ive looked at S/Cing my Max. but having the S/C M3 is WAY more fun.

Sorry to hear about your loss....sounds like A/A is going to be recieving a call from you soon...

I'm still surprised that it was a complete rape of 10 cl's! The E46 M3 is much faster than a stock 3.5 Maxima, so I wonder what kind of boost and power, because if that thing is CF with roughly 10 psi, look out! It would be in the 400 whp neighborhood then.

Is just hard to belive that he pulled u that much....maybe it was built or boostin ga lot on S/c ...He was making around 360-380 rwhp. to pull u that much .

It most likely does. Stock is 255 hp, so 10-12 psi on a SC along with exhaust, tuning, etc... and that thing would be a beast. Plus, amazingly enough, the 02-03 Maximas are 200 lbs. lighter than an E46 M3, so that has to be factored in as well.

Believe it or not, here are the specs

300LBS means a second off in the quarter mile? Funny, that means I should be running 16s and 'Verts mid 14s. More like .3 depending on several factors. 100lbs = 10hp = .1sec roughly.

hmmm ok then how come cabs run a 14.2 and coupes run a 13.3 or so. sounds like a second to me. and so if you add 100 lbs to a 900 lbs lotus 7, you jsut need 10 more hp to make up for it? 300 lbs is a lot. i guess you dont care with a charger and all. thanks for your great knowledge.

My best run so far was 13.31. With the download, exaust, pulleys, K&N intake and AR20 Resonator. No dynos yet but I am thinking about NX now. Will see I guess

You have no knowledge of physics or the performance of an E46 M3 convertible.
