View Full Version : Me vs. Dodge Charger
Dtrain325i 12-17-2006, 09:16 PM When I left work today one of my buddies that I work with asked if I wanted to race him in the Charger he just bought. Considering it was just a V6 model I accepted. We pull up to a light on the private drive that the plant sits on and line up. I tell him that we're go after 3 honks. On the 3rd honk we both take off. I immediately jump up to 1 CL ahead, by second gear he was at my back bumper which is where he stayed until we shut down at about 70. I was pleased with myself. Although its entirely possible that I beat the driver and not the car.
TonysBimmer 12-17-2006, 09:43 PM Nice kill, man. Any idea what his car weighs? I don't like the looks of those things, reminds me of the Fisher-Price toy cars I had when I was little.
I'll rather have the old General Lee any time!

SpunkyE30nOk 12-18-2006, 12:12 PM i think the only charger that is going to outrun a bmw is the R/T *5.7 hemi v8* and the srt-8 *6.1 hemi v8* the 2 v6s aren't very powerful the 2.7 is like 190hp or something and the 3.5 is around 250hp, but those are some big cars so they do have some LBS to em...nice kill btw
Deuuuce 12-18-2006, 05:02 PM Loaded SRTs weigh 4200lbs w/ gas. The V6s probably 3900 or so. The website has the specs but I'm too lazy.
Dtrain325i 12-18-2006, 08:33 PM it was the 3.5L V6. I was pleased
jeff13 12-18-2006, 08:57 PM it was the 3.5L V6. I was pleased
was it awd?
Minotauro 12-18-2006, 09:47 PM I dont think chargers come in awd.
stanksbeamen 12-18-2006, 09:51 PM Nice, got a good jump on him. Good kill none the less, i dont like the cars too much so its good you beat him!:D
MechEngr 12-18-2006, 10:29 PM Another disturbing fact about the charger is that you can't get the V8 in a manual tranny. Maybe the V6 too, I didn't look.
Nadroj 12-18-2006, 10:37 PM ^wtf i didnt know that
Dtrain325i 12-18-2006, 10:53 PM all the chargers are in Automatic only, it is a shame.
Deuuuce 12-19-2006, 09:15 AM You can get AWD in the 5.7 Hemi. Rare and the torque converter really doesn't allow killer launches.
"Autotragic" only, yes. It's a Mercedes DNA product line too. It's preferred among most Charger owners anyway. Only the SRT-8 handles well and not many want to row a 4200lb sled.
Zaf///Mroadster 12-20-2006, 09:23 PM nice kill, those chargers have to be sleds. Ive never been in one but should be a no brainer when racin one of those.
Dtrain325i 12-20-2006, 09:39 PM I was pleased with it. the nice part about it was that we were on a private road (if a cop were around he wouldn't have been able to pull us over until we were off property) it was also totally empty.
Driven06Z4M 12-21-2006, 12:15 AM 4200LBS! Must be because Dodge is so used to making trucks and SUVs that they figured sports cars have to be heavy too.
Zaf///Mroadster 12-21-2006, 12:42 AM damn thats heavy
Deuuuce 12-21-2006, 01:28 AM Any 4door with a 120 inch wheelbase (think Lexus LS460 or S-Class) is probably going to be over 4000lbs, easily. I believe the E60 M5 is too. It's VERY heavy but handled quite nicely at Laguna Seca.
V10power 12-21-2006, 01:38 AM My M5 is about 4200 it could use a diet but is built like a tank
Deuuuce 12-21-2006, 05:00 PM Exactly. The LX platform is derived from the prior gen. Mercedes E-class. It is one stiff, solid mutha!
