View Full Version : STi vs. supercharged M Roady

Was in my STi, I was coming back from a local meet and I had a chance to play with a black M roadster from a 40-100 roll race. I honked 3 beeps and immediately pulled a car length and held that distance till 100. There was a traffic light ahead of us, so we couldn't have gone any faster. I didn't pull away but neither could he. It was a interesting, albeit a short race.

I realized the story was kinda short, so I'll add another story.:stickoutt

Coming home from I-695 in the M5, I see a silver Porsche coming fast, weaving in and out of traffic in my rear view mirror. He speeds up and brakes, and gets behind me. I look behind to see what Porsche is tailing me. 911? boxter? cayman? I couldn't tell, they all look the same to me in the front. I hear him downshift and fly passes me and I realize it was a older 996 Carrera with liscence plate "2fst4u". :D When I clicked down couple gears, he was already 4-5 car length ahead of me. I pressed the loud pedal and to my suprise, I couldn't gain any ground -- he was buslength ahead of me.

Doh! I was in the default P400 hp mode. :rolleyes He slowed down allowed me to catch up and get beside him. I pressed the power button , selected the faster gearshift setting and I was ready to play. Again without warning, he jumps ahead and floors the pedal. I anticipated his action, but was at a wrong gear. He was already 4 carlength ahead around 80 until I reached my power band, then I passed him at 110ish. Couldn't really make out the impression of the driver due to the gangster -340% tints, but I'm pretty sure he had no idea what hit him. He definetly needs to recalibrate what "fast" means.

edit:

I know it's been almost year since I made this thread, but last night I ran into the same plates on the Carrera but this time, on a 911 Turbo(997) as "2fst4u". I was coming back home from work on I-95 southbound in my STi and I see bright HID coming in fast behind me. As I proceed move over to the right to let him pass, he brakes hard next to me and taunts me with quick sprints. The traffic was clear and roads were straight, so I've drop down to 4th and EWG blasted past him to let him know that this isn't an STi that gets walked by 335i's.:)

We slow down to 40mph, brake-boost'd on 3rd gear and both WOT @ third honk. From 40-100 mph, we would be side by side, gaining and losing ground everytime we shift. From 120mph, I would slowly pull on him to one car length and shut it down at 146mph. After the race, we gave each other thumbs up and parted each other ways. If this is the same guy I've raced last year, he now has a car now worthy of his vanity plates.

what is done to the sti:) ?

When I raced that M Roadster, all I had done was basic exhaust upgrades, reflash and meth inj.

Now I have GT52r, FMIC and supporting mods. Pushing 430whp on pump gas and weight reductions, approx 180lbs off the curb weight.:devillook

The new M5 is cool and crazy fast and everything but its kindof over the top. I mean you couldnt gain any ground on him at one point and then you pressed the m button and selected a faster shift pace and you killed him. It has too many settings and buttons to deal with. Whatever happened to pushing in the clutch and dropping it into 3rd and stomping on it? The M5 is faster but I bet the Porsce is more fun. Too many buttons, too much computer crap. "Hey wait hold on a second, I need to go into the options on my onboard computer so that I can beat your ass in this drag race." Nice car but just too complicated. Someone must agree with me.

i thought thats why there was an M button, that went to your performance settings? or does the m5 not have this feature?

edit, everything he did to gain power, is about the same work I go through if im going to run. Dsc off, drive logic to s6, and sport button on.

yohan.....are there a few e60 silver m5s in the NoVA region? I know shortly after doing my clutch install, I tried keeping up with one that was moving rather excitedly through the traffic on the beltway........... I didn't keep up. Just curious if it was you though.
