I was cruising on the thruway with the flow of traffic and I see the lowered front end of a black e39 fast approaching me in the fast lane. He whizzes by me and I see he is definitely lowered with some sort of Bayeren wheels.

I knew it wouldn’t even be close but what oh well. I caught up to him and he slowed down to 60mph with me. We waited until the traffic cleared then hit it. He immediately began to pull on me and I continued on up to 100. He was far far ahead. He slowed down and I caught up to him. We cruised the rest of the way up the thruway together doing about 85. It was good clean fun.

nice run...I wanted an e34 530i for the longest time, but it was hell lookin for one so i settled on my e30, but my next bmw will be an e34 540i M sport if i can find one

The 530/528 manual sports are quick and nimble. But the 540 has just too much power. Pretty much the same margins as a 540 v M5. You'd think that cars which look so similar might be close, but they're all three just entirely different animals.

I know what you're saying, and I completely agree. I had always kind of wondered what the outcome would be in a scenario like this, mostly because I've considered buying a 530 before and wanted to know how well it would hold up against a 540.
