View Full Version : 2 14 year old punks in a stolen SUV = no more E34
Oahu320iS 12-15-2006, 05:09 AM About 5:00pm my friend in HPD calls and informs me he's at the crash scene and my son's involved. My son is OK, just a bit shook up. Come to find out HPD was chasing these punks from Hawaii Kai where they had burged a house and stolen the SUV. My son was on Beretania fronting the BK in the middle lane. The SUV was going like a bat outa Hell and tried to pass my son, lost control, struck the passenger side of the E34 and spun my son into a utility pole. The SUV then flipped twice and landed on top of an Acura in the Star Market parking lot. The driver was pretty banged up and transported, the passenger was arrested at the scene. I don't think HPD should have been in a high speed pursuit on King and Beretania at 4:45pm.

Reverend73 12-15-2006, 05:29 AM Looks like the old girl did her job protecting your son. Glad he's ok.
The Beastmaster 12-15-2006, 05:30 AM Glad the boy is safe. It's a good thing he was in a BMW and not a Honda or something that would have crumpled. Now look at it this way, you don't have to sell it and you'll be making $$$ off the insurance co. Trade in is @$4k.
NateDawg 12-15-2006, 06:04 AM *sniff sniff* so ... she can be fixed right ... *tear* ...
Damn.
Hope your son is doing well. Hope for the best for this unfortunate situation. Stay safe guys, bunch of crazy ass hats out there.
gmhl10 12-15-2006, 06:23 AM Damn... definitely good that your son wasn't hurt badly.
Still... he should go to the doctor to get checked up, x-ray, whatever.
Sometimes, the seriousness of it doesn't hit you until a few days later.
Just do that neck thing and collect some more dough. haha.
But yea, thank goodness for German engineering!
Iwantoneofthose 12-15-2006, 06:27 AM RIP E34, but glad it protected your son well
CLEANM3whipz 12-15-2006, 06:34 AM Damn that car got F*CKED!!! Good thing your son wasnt hurt. Sucks for the punks tho haha
MoyMch 12-15-2006, 08:54 AM Glad to hear your Son is alright. Most police departments will not continue a high speed chase through the city for just this reason.
DesmoBob 12-15-2006, 01:20 PM holy sh¡t glad your son can walk away from it
that is some nasty sh¡t
Oahu320iS 12-15-2006, 01:20 PM Thanks for the kind words guys. He did go to Queens and got checked out. Just a small cut on his knee and a bruise from the seat belt. It's amazing how much the car absorbed the impact, got to appreciate German engineering.
Anthrsckmnd 12-15-2006, 02:41 PM Man that e34 is built like a tank, glad to hear your son's okay!
SL333PR 12-15-2006, 02:43 PM That sucks! Hope your son is okay.
E36Guy 12-15-2006, 02:45 PM Wow.. I love the safety of BMW's.. Im very glad to hear that your son is okay. Sad to see the E34 so messed up though. :( Oh well, in the event, it did what it's meant to do, and it saved a life. :D
rennwerkes 12-15-2006, 04:12 PM Just to echo the rest of the guys, glad to hear your boy is fine.
The BMW did its job!
bimbum 12-15-2006, 04:20 PM violent crash! seen the pic in the paper today too. glad things weren't even more serious. that sure is one tough little car!
99MPower 12-15-2006, 05:47 PM glad to see your son is ok, and the e34 did its job

+ 1
Check out the passenger side impact beam's shape showing through the door skin. Most apparent in Pic 2. Also very heartening to see that the passenger seat aea is intact.
When I bought the BMW I drive daily (my first), a good friend said: "Isn't it nice to have your butt wrapped in German steel again?" Indeed, it is. I remember a few years back having to walk behind a row of auto body shops on my way home from uni, and I'd always look in at the mashed cars. The German ones more than likely had intact passenger compartments.
It taught me a lot about what to consider when buying a new car. Sometimes I'd have someone ask me "What should I buy, X or Y". I'd take them down to that auto body shop area and we'd look around for mashed up examples of brand X & Y cars and I'd say, "now decide". That usually trumped all discussion of power, price, features, etc.

"Ditto"
Why a car chase @ 4:45 in the afternoon?
:rolleyes
I thought they had radios............or was it shift change time?
PCP JR 12-15-2006, 10:46 PM The way Honolulu's roads are set-up, it would be very easy to catch car thieves.
To get from one side of town to the other, there are a few points through which one must pass...
If the PD had any foresight, they could monitor these areas 24/7 (build a substation in those areas) and cut down on a ton of illegal activity.
Doesn't take much.

Same here and glad that your son is okay.
thrlls 12-16-2006, 01:13 AM Hey Mike, sorry to hear about/see this man!
Glad you son came out of this in good shape, of course you & M need to watch him for a few days just to be sure.
If there is anything I can do to help, let me know.
That was a nice car and it's nice to see how it held up especially with that U shape on the front pass. bumper! Yet the interior shows the passenger side is intact!
Bright side, your son didn't get hurt, and you don't need to try to sell the car now. Down side your son will hurt for a couple of days and now you need to look for another car...wait that may be a bright side too...looking for another car!
LMK if you need anything!

Of course that makes TOO much sense so it will never happen.....:rolleyes
gsn794 12-16-2006, 04:59 PM The most important thing is that your son is okay. You can always replace a car. Gotta love how well these cars protect you. My Mom totaled my E34 535i about a year ago, and walked away without a scratch. I was sorry to lose the car, but Mom was fine and Loflyn and Astroboy got to recycle some of the parts. BTW, anyone know how Loflyn's engine transplant went?
