View Full Version : Hard to find racing stuff?
jhall1957 12-12-2006, 04:50 PM Hey, I'm in Winston Salem and looking for a place that sells and actually stocks some race wear. Suits, shoes, helmets and the like.
Any ideas? I hate buying stuff to wear without trying it on.

A 55 minute drive on I40 West to I77 South will put you in Mooresville. Right off of Hwy 150 you will find Simpson World, and about a hundred yards from there you will find Impact Racing.
Both companies have a full line of racewear and protective gear, shoes, gloves, etc. The Impact guys will actually custom-fit a helmet to your head while you sit there.
Directions for Impact are at their site: Impact Race Products (http://www.impactraceproducts.com/)
Directions for Simpson World:Simpson Race Products (http://www.simpsonraceproducts.com/company/world.aspx)
bmwm3n528 12-13-2006, 12:17 AM There's always the VIR Pro-Shop, which is now owned by CDOC (Thankfully).
You coming through town anytime in the next few days Jeff?
Specter325 12-13-2006, 07:48 AM Second on the VIR pro shop. That place is now a very high end accessory shop. I dropped by there two weekends ago while I was there for the PCA event. They were very knowledgeable about the products they had and were willing to let one try all kinds of things on. Mice folks.
turbo8765 12-13-2006, 09:15 AM There really is nothing in WS.

jhall1957 12-15-2006, 09:51 AM Stopped in Mooresville yesterday and went to both Simpson and Impact. Impact was so-so, no real bargains but nice stuff! Simpson was GREAT! Got shoes (leather with Nomax) for $40 and gloves on sale too! Tons of Helmets and suits and everything soft needed.
Great place!

Impact and Simpson are open on Saturday?
I need to get some nomex undies, shoes, socks, gloves and SA helmet soon, a drive up on Saturday wouldn't be too bad.

I think Simpson is open til 1 on Sat, and Impact til 5.
Better check the links to verify that through the holidays....phone call might prove to be wise.
Simpson is where you will find the deals, but that custom fit Impact helmet sure feels great.
jhall1957 12-15-2006, 03:24 PM Simpson had alot of good stuff on sale. I looked at nomex undies but those are expensive and I have a 5 rated suit so not needed. Shoes at Simpson-$40, unbeatable deal!!

They're also 4 hours away, and I won't buy a helmet without trying it on.

I wish I knew someone/someplace in Raleigh, but unfortunately I don't.
Of course, there's a whole world of order-it-on-the-net out there, but if you want to try it on before you buy it, there's probably no place better on the east coast than Mooresville. I know that's a couple of hours for you, but again, if you want to try it on, it would probably be worth the drive.
In addition to the already mentioned vendors, you also have the option of CV Products (http://www.cvproducts.com/cv/company/contact.aspx) and BSR Racing (http://www.bsrproducts.com/) which are all in close proximity to each other.
Other than Indianapolis, I don't know if there are very many places in the world where one can go and have all of the racing products resourses avialable in such close proximity.
Impact and Simpsonworld are open on Saturday mornings (I believe Impact is open all day on Sat). I'm pretty sure CV Products (Bell Helmets) is not open on Saturday. CV does have an operation in Thomasville which is slightly closer to you.
Hope this helps some. Wish I could help more.
