View Full Version : 1JZ twin turbo supra vs. E39 M5
Leo540i 12-11-2006, 07:32 PM My best friend has an 88 supra with the 1jz motor, stock twin turbos. On race gas he dyno'd 372 hp and 420 ft. lbs of torque to the wheels :)
My car is completely stock, except for the UUC race clutch/light weight flywheel.
During these runs, he was on regular pump gas.
50 mph roll-110mph (both in 2nd gear) we punch it, he pulls a little bit, shift, and he keeps pulling. puts about 1 car length in between our cars.
50 mph roll-110mph (both in 3rd gear) we punch it, and i inch away from him putting his front end just behind my driver door
he does not have much turbo lag because of his small turbos but i believe if we would have kept going to higher speeds, he would have definately caught up and possibly pulled on me. regardless fun runs, and keeping it safe :devillook
(fuzzy pic of the two cars)

evo connevo 12-11-2006, 09:51 PM i thought the pre 93 supras were single turbos? Maybe I'm wrong though. Both nice cars...
ModenaM3 12-11-2006, 09:57 PM Definately would have had him in the twisties :devillook

You are correct, the US ones were. In Japan though, some has the 1jz.......which is twin turbo. And this guy swapped one in.
Nice run. Both cars are clean.

yonoconozco 12-12-2006, 09:57 PM nice runs from two good friends and no bmw snobbery ftmfw. wow this is great :buttrock i really like the late 80s early 90s supras. the turbos are hard to come by now. i didnt know the 1jz was a tt. whats the codename for the american supra singlle turbo engine for the early 90s?
Brewster 12-12-2006, 10:00 PM 7mgte 87-92 supras

yonoconozco 12-12-2006, 10:09 PM thanks for the clarification brewster. do u have pics of your 1jz powered supra and engine bay?

evo connevo 12-13-2006, 01:59 AM Interesting that japan had the twins while we had the single before the 93... There is a black pre 93 supra turbo around my area, really clean with rims and some mods.I'm lucky enough to see it once a year. That thing is beautiful. I'd take any year supra in a heartbeat.

We have a comedian on our hands!! Not all of us have a car with a milion HP Brad!! My mechanics is a really nice daily driver, total sleeper. He also has an RX7 that runs low 10 at almost 4000 ft above sea level. Also a daily driver! All bulit by him!
Leo540i 12-14-2006, 07:50 PM the supra is indeed faster than my car, we are usually pretty close but overall he has more power and less weight. though he was on pump gas at the time of our races.
