View Full Version : E36 328i vs Sentra S-ER
SergeK 12-11-2006, 03:55 AM Just ran an SER last night on I95.
I was driving along at 70mphish and this guy kept pacing me, right next to me. He floored it once and stopped after a few seconds. Started pacing me again and honked once. I rolled my window down, gave him a thumbs up and honked three times.
I mashed my pedal down just before the third honk (im automatic for the next 2 weeks!!) I immedietly start pulling. Not too hard at first. Im basically crawling away. But then once i got higher in the revrange, i started really breaking from him.
By about 120mph i had 3-4 cars on him. I slowed down, he got next to me, gave a thumbs up and drove off.
TIMSGT 12-11-2006, 04:48 AM good kill

bad personal experience
Jackoosh 12-11-2006, 11:48 AM got auto? why race?

Mahalaleel 12-11-2006, 05:21 PM Auto for two weeks? Then swap? How hard is the swap, how many hours, I mean
TheBog 12-11-2006, 07:05 PM words
What kind of SE-R, the new ones or the old boxy ones? I'm guessing new based on the results.
l3it3r 12-11-2006, 07:12 PM The Sentra's top end is SHIT. They completely die out at about 110-115.. My buddy has a 2004 SE-R SpecV and an SRT8, and they'll get similar 60ft times, so they're EXCELLENT for launching.. but that's about it. HOWEVER, those things handle incredibly well for a tin can.
imsotyerred 12-11-2006, 07:33 PM i've always wanted an old sentra se-r
SergeK 12-11-2006, 07:34 PM Newer one.
Im doing a tranny swap next week. Its about 10 hours labor. Its gonna be VERY fun with my 3.91lsd diff :) But ill be swapping to 3.27 or something around there after a month.
Pooch 12-11-2006, 09:13 PM Good thing I decided to get my 328i. I was leaning towards an SE-R for a long time before I found the BMW. I'm faily sure I would have been dissapointed in many things about an SE-R starting with the gay FWD.
theOCHO 12-11-2006, 09:49 PM At least the driver of the hideous SE-R was cool about losing. And yeah, the 1990-94 SE-R is awesome regardless of its slowness.
ModenaM3 12-11-2006, 10:53 PM Nice kill!
Anytime an autotragic can win, life is good!
Good luck on the swap.
GuitarKid93 12-12-2006, 12:58 AM I put the 3.91 in my 5 speed, its pretty fun but stay away if you want gas millage or drive on the high way...

QFT i love boxy cars
SergeK 12-12-2006, 02:10 AM guitarkid - was it a bitch having to shift so often? How was it with the 3.91? Top speeds at what gears?
jhstealth 12-12-2006, 02:41 AM Haha nice kill, i hate sentras also, i love how everyone baggs on auto, i personally dont like it and i am too doing the swap but in 4 weeks for me, but its not that bad i have beaten allot of cars dispite my auto handicap because u hafta remember its still a beamer :-) let us know how your swap goes
SergeK 12-12-2006, 02:47 AM honestly, my auto is not that slow. Intake, m50 mani, and software. I kept up with a well modded e36 m3 until like, the bottom of my third gear. then he pulled me hard.
Dtrain325i 12-12-2006, 02:53 AM i definately prefer manual but i'm happy as long as it has a roundel on the hood
jhstealth 12-12-2006, 03:37 AM Well said both of you
JustinE36M3 12-12-2006, 10:57 AM those yellow sentras are hideously(sp) ugly. good job keeping him in check.
///Ficarra 12-12-2006, 11:01 AM oh man, there is a kid at work with an SE-R that always wants to race in the morning when we leave ( im on 3rd).
haha, my buddy smoked him in his 98 Volvo c70 turbo (auto), and i pulled away from him, so i just laugh when the guy gets next to me and revs. Sentra FTL

I'm not doubting exactly... But how can that be true? Isn't the Sentra fwd?
Lastb0isct 12-12-2006, 08:12 PM I had a 91' Se-R. Don't ever talk shit about one of those because you never know what it could have. I out handled an e46 m3 in the tight twisties up on mulholland. Don't underestimate their cornering abilities...

you are right.
best cars evar.
sorry mate.
getfast 12-13-2006, 10:07 AM LOL maybe not evar, but the old Sentra SE-R's ('91-'93 B13 chassis) can be surprisingly quick and don't weigh much.
Several years ago I had two of 'em with bolt-ons that did mid high 14's and could keep up with E36 M3's and Boxsters on roadcourses. I recall getting around 140whp out of 'em, and getting 'em down to like 2300 pounds empty.
Fun little cars, but FWD was hard to set up and I eventually got tired of breaking axles and swaybar links. I got my first E30 shortly thereafter. :D
Of course now, it seems like every old SE-R I see... is either totally stock and beat to shit, or has a SR20DET swap. :embarrasm
Jon
propr`one 12-13-2006, 10:35 AM The new(er) sentra SE-R?
no way, those things destroy my 328.:D
j/k
but they are underestimated.
SergeK 12-13-2006, 10:44 AM I remember right when i did my m50 manifold swap. All i had was the CAI at the time... and i ran this Mercedes on I95, turns out the guy lives like 20 feet from my house. I pulled in with him to chat, he asked if i wanted to run his SE-R, i was like... Nahhhh.... Now i wish i wouldhave :-D
Eloff19 12-13-2006, 11:11 AM guitarkid - was it a bitch having to shift so often? How was it with the 3.91? Top speeds at what gears?
I also have a 3.91 in the ///M. It's not so much the shifting often that is a turn off but the loss of top speed in each gear: the revving at 4 grand to do 70 miles an hour, and 5th gear limited ~125mph. For around town driving its perfect, save a very short first gear. The best part is how much harder the car pulls in any gear.
There's a link somewhere with speed vs rpm depending on rear-end ratios but I can't find it right now.
Lastb0isct 12-13-2006, 01:13 PM You'd be suprised at how many older Se-Rs have the somewhat newer sr20ve engine inside. It competes with the k20 stock but the k20 is much more bolt on friendly. se-rs can easily get up to 180fwhp
phantom3 12-13-2006, 01:17 PM nissan should have just let the se-r badge go after the early 90's , who are they trying to fool . =)

Right, the ever elusive NINETY-ONES! I got it, it all makes sense now. Thanks....me=jotting down their ability to corner, and look like a complete turd at the same time.

You must be a moron. The "classic" se-r's have characteristical traits of the e30. It is not a bad looking car. They may be small, have tiny back seats and have terrible sound dampening but they're very competent vehicles. Don't put them in the category of "just another import"
Walked U 12-13-2006, 09:52 PM Zing :(
Awwww hey dude those sentras are good daily drivers, good kill.
SergeK 12-15-2006, 01:26 AM All the Autotragic Hate has me cryin.
JWBrockman 12-15-2006, 01:45 AM This thread title could describe me deciding what to drive to work every morning :).
B15 Sentras are kinda bleh, but B13s are where it's at ;).
