If this is missing id say you would notice it! Initially when you lower the top, the rear should lift, then a panel between the trunk lid and back seat lifts for access to the soft top storage. Can you take a picture? jasontn 12-10-2006, 10:25 PM Here is a pic of what I am talking about. amancuso 12-10-2006, 10:37 PM Looks like you need #6 or 7 assembly cover. http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BK83&mospid=47477&btnr=51_2096&hg=51&fg=50 palomino 12-10-2006, 11:13 PM I have panels missing when my convertible top is down. Just find out the part number for them and look at the car and you should be able to do it your self...wasnt too hard just requires some patience jasontn 12-11-2006, 12:02 AM Do they require any clips....how do they stay in? Christophe 12-11-2006, 05:20 PM Jasontn Here are the part numbers for the pieces....you will need a part number 7 below for the left and the right ( the numbers are all side and colour specific). You will also need the part number 8 (one each side, non side specific). Part 8 attaches to the frame of the soft top. As the top drops down the spring loaded part 8 will automatically shift the cover (part 7) into place and cover the hole that you have in the picture. Reverse when top goes up, the part gets pulled back so the top can attach and lock in place.... Amazing how these cars still use such a basic mechanical system! When you put this together, slide part 7 into place first, make sure to have the leads in the correct channels. The two leads on part 7 to the front of the car run in a very separate channel and it is lower than the rear leads. Make sure to have the spring (part 8) already attached to the part 8 before putting into place. Attaching it afterward and then having to attach it to the top is almost imposible. Oh and patience....it took me about 20 minutes per side because the channels are not easy.
