Its already a classic....I do have the 4 spoke mtec wheel....looking for the three spoke M wheel...in time.....i've pretty much converted my 318 to an M3 and then some....she's rediculously fast....and when stage two comes from VF even faster... I do justice to the M series...I've had this car since new....at the time you couldn't buy and M3 vert.....or I would have....I went with the 318 as it was cheap....and I bought an M3 coupe 1995...until I crashed her 4 yrs ago....have pics if you want to see them....I think i have one more new bimmer in my life....but i thinks its going to be the E46 M3 Vert.... the New M3 coming out so far does nothing for me.

I agree that the 10mm difference in diameter seems huge now. Plus, coming from a non-M wheel, the thickness is awesome.

BTW, I love black interiors. Except in a convertible. Black leather gets way too hot. The beige and grey stay much cooler. Function over form sometimes.

I even like the stock bumpers and amber indies. It really looks like it just came out of the factory. Keep it like this and you'll enjoy it for many years.

it's a 1997 model M44 318i. mileage is 80k. interior is all stock. leatherette sand. only thing im planning to change if i have the chance would be the steering wheel. i drove a late 80s 7 series and it uses the same thing:embarrasm .

not leather. this is used on the base models. it lasts longer than leather and looks newer IMO. the seats other than the driver were rarely used. they don't show any stretch marks. i don't think a 10 year old leather seat can look this fresh.

sure they can :) I'll snap some pics when the hardtop comes off in a few months. I'm thinkin the previous owner might have been a poser. Take off tha 328 and leave it blank or put on the proper badging. Sweet car tho, bet you're lovin the gas mileage!! :D

Yeah, that would help. Mine's been a daily driver with atleast four different owners over the last 10 years and 119,000 miles. It was in texas for 8 of those years, so I'm sure that didn't help much :-/

That's where the rollover bars are for.

although I know that for some tracks, you require such type of rollbar/cage.

It does ruin the lines, so unless it's for trackdays, it's a no no.

If I was in a country with SoCal climate, I'd own a white vert too :)

I think the BMW Alpine White is a really clean white and I love the white/grey mix (it's hard to come by I hear). Trying to attach a pic of my 91 525i w/ 18" Hartge, Bilstien shocks & struts, Racing Dynamics tension bars, DINAN performance chips, etc... My son will probabaly inherit it when it's time. File size it too big but working on it.

Thanks all, it does have water spots that will need attention. Other than that, it has 57k miles and it has been in my family since 16k miles, all well taken care of miles. I believe it has almost all the options, I know the original sticker was like 56K.

Same with all high-end cars. Steep price, but you have nothing yet.
Pick a couple of nice options and add 10~20k to the bill :)

As you can see, most options were pretty expensive!

Tough luck the OEM ones can't be retrofitted.

I already have the roll-over protection stock, but i'd like to have a roll bar put in aswell. i guess the only option is "auto power" or a custom jobby, huh?

While I like painted moldings on the single color hardtops, they do not do it for me on a cab with a black top. When the top is up, the black moldings look fantastic. The BMW International Motorsport badges look damn good on a white cabrio.

Painted ones only look good on black cars since you don't notice that stripe like on light cars.

Black or white look good to me. Not so much the other colors. I find the black strip distracting on a white car. I looked at some pics in the "Car Detailing..." forum and liked the white car with painted moldings. Of course, it's a personal preference. Good luck.

Well, I am selling my HID's, Ellipsoids, Eyelids and Corners as one unit to a local fellow.

Looking at going with the DEPO GenIV with Predator Chromiums off the group buy. Also going to add a set of Prolumen HID's.

Palomino - Thanks :) I love the timeless design of our wheels however I have been in a dilemma ever since I put on the brakes. I am getting a shimmy on the highway due to the spacers I have to run for spoke clearance (because AC Schnitzers do not have curved spokes, they are not BBK friendly). So when Feb 15 rolls around I am ordering myself a staggered set of these (still keeping my AC's though - might mount them on my garage wall :)).

In the front have a set of H&R 10mm that I cut down to 6mm. This is about as close as I can run the wheel spokes to the calipers without messing the spacer up. I tried 5mm H&R's but could only do so with Turner hub extensions because as you know with our front rotors, the bell is thicker that OEM rotors for some reason and does leave much hub protrusion left. Still had the shimmy. There is no way my straight spokes will clear the calipers without spacers - if they were curved I am certain they could. I am sure it's the spacers with the combo of my hard suspension. E36's just do not like wide wheels tracks.

In the rear I run 10mm spacers just to match the track widths front and rear.

Things not related to the shimmy that I have fixed:

Wheel balancing/straightening
LCABs
Alignment
Ball joints checked

It all started when I put the BBK, suspension and spacers in. I am sure if I went back to stock everything the shimmy would be gone.

I have only noticed that style of airbag a few times, both on 99 3 series(vert and 323is's).
I swapped my all black stock wheel and airbag for the newer style one and I was scared for awhile that it was airbag specific. Any thoughts??? Also, why do you guys (and girls ;) think the vert. was the VERY last bmw to get a colored roundel??? even the 318ti got it in '95 and my late model 96 vert had the same wheel my dads old 88' 735i had.

Not a fan myself of that "rice" styling. Sorry, I'm a OEM head.

Don't like the LED taillights, the front headlights (outside projectors are too small and change the look too much). I hate these clear indicators with the big bulb in them.
The 2 metal "rods" that hold the splitter.

And the interior...well....not my cuppa :)

I have never seen that style wheel in an e36 before!

No wheels are airbag specific, although all wheels have their own shape of airbag that will fit.
And all steering wheels, BAR the ugly, old, 4-spoke airbag wheel) have colored roundels, so there's no "last" one to have it. Only the old cars have non-colored roundels.

I guess the USA who already had airbags when we didn't have seatbelts ;) just had to have these steering wheels.

They are used here too, but only on pre-96 cars.

well the rice style would be fitting for hong kong. i have always wondered what those healights looked like i see on ebay all the time. I am more of an OEM head my self. only thing i plan on doing is geting some 17in rims and the m3 coversion kit. and get a stock head unit. i would be content.

In my point of view, E36 interior are easy to get old, just want to make it sit and drive comfort. Thats all.

The cloth of the interior (blue with gold pattern on), door cards, centerl penal, are custom made.

It is also known that people exposed to extreme heat (eg: fire burn victims) may suffer additional serious skin damage by contact with burning or melting leatherette.

Well as far as I know...I have black nappa leather. But who knows. Would've been easier if it had the "genuine leather" logo on it somewhere.

I do have matching leather "Lux" doorpanels. Would be superised if that was leatherette too.

Although I must say I have never heard of the leatherette term nor seeing it ever being mentioned over here (euro).

BTW: Good choice on going for black on black. Well, the leathe color isn't that important, but in my book, only the black dash and all other trim should be black. I can't stand the grey and beige plastic. Makes it look so cheap (again, in my opinion). I truelly can't stand it. Specially in the dark, black on black gives it a "mob" look with only the amber lightining visible.

Nice ride. Yours reminds me of my 1997 328ic except I don't have the M3 trim. I plan to do some of the mechanical upgrades but may skip the cosmetic.

The background in your photos looks like Zeeland. I lived in 's-Graveland near Hilversum and worked in De Meern for 4 years in the mid 90s. My company car was an 1991 Alfa Romeo 33 QV. I really like that car but BMW beats it hands down. I drive 20 miles of mountain roads to work every day now the 328 handles like a dream.

I really liked living in Holland but didn't enjoy driving the A2, especially when it was raining.

Nice ride. Yours reminds me of my 1997 328ic except I don't have the M3 trim. I plan to do some of the mechanical upgrades but may skip the cosmetic.

The background in your photos looks like Zeeland. I lived in 's-Graveland near Hilversum and worked in De Meern for 4 years in the mid 90s. My company car was an 1991 Alfa Romeo 33 QV. I really like that car but BMW beats it hands down. I drive 20 miles of mountain roads to work every day now the 328 handles like a dream.

I really liked living in Holland but didn't enjoy driving the A2, especially when it was raining.

i thought about getting rid off them then i grew too like them but now im going to paint the car two toned black on top to blend in with the black top..so ill get the handles painted to match.

You hit the nail square on the head! That's indeed the Gooimeer. But that location where I took the photo's didn't exist back then. It's only been there for a few years now. Best spot in whole Huizen to take pics (as you can see).
I even had people think I lived in SoCal :D

Yes 'T Gooi is where many rich and famous live, specially in Laren en Blarcium. Kinda the Holland version of places like Bel Air.

I'm by no means rich at all just in case people would think after seeing me drive an e36 vert. I worked my butt off for that one. ;)

Looks like Tony at TC Design did a great job (as usual). Most mods done to convertibles are of the "form" type. Nice to see a true "function" mod. :cool

Well besides that it's already proven right above me...how can you say small hood. Eagle eyes?

Well it's not and there's a giveaway....the side indicators. Saloon, Touring and compact (with the shorter hoods) have a different shape at the wing side.

So even if I didn't know what it was...it could only have been a coupe or a vert.

thanks mparalell bougth mine standard with standard 15" normal jelly mould suspension and cloth interior,love my vert going to do the fan delete soon but wonderd where the switch is for the elec fan i used to be a mechanic so it dosent worry me,and also going to have the ecu remapped to up the horses, but i might have to put the ride height up a bit its about 2" off the ground!:lol

and the steerings that side so i can talk to foreigners without leaning over the other seat !!!

I usually don't like red BMW's but that is one amazing pic. Very cleaver. Looks like a genuine BMW ad. I wish I could take such clear pics.

Just one shame though...when driving open (specially on pics) lower the damn side windows and drop the wind deflector.
People that drive open with the windows up...I'm like...you should've just gotten a coupe with sunroof.

Having said that....do you have any hi-res version of that pic? I want it as a screensaver :D

(and MUCH props for not color coding the rubbing strips. Totally downs the car on lighter/bright colors) This contrast is perfect and the horizontal line stretches the car visually.

I really don't like the look of that big red clownose as it's know underneath the mirror.

Couldn't they just made it a small led-bulb?

I prefer my auto-dimm mirror with a smooth bottom.

15% however the softop window is not tinted. I have found that its not possible, thats why I like having the wind deflector when the top is up because it darkens the rear visibility in.
