Depends on build. 09/02 and later have a new diff that fixes that. Older cars can get a new diff fluid. Kevlar: Can you elaborate? I have about 1700 miles and when I make tight turns i hear a "rubbing" sound, but I'm too sure what it is. It is intermittent though and I hear it mostly making tight left turns.. :help Kevlar 01-05-2003, 05:58 PM Originally posted by MattMan Kevlar: Can you elaborate? Some cars exhibt that rubbing noise. I haven't taken mine to the dealer yet cause I'm too busy driving the car. Dealer is supposed to know how to fix it. I've only heard it on my car once. I solved the problem by not making tight turns. Or should I get it to the dealership asap? Kevlar 01-05-2003, 06:17 PM Originally posted by MattMan This this a serious problem? Will it get worse? Or should I get it to the dealership asap? It's not really a problem, it's by design of the limited slip diff... however, the noise part is the part that needs to be fixed. I haven't taken my car it yet... and it's still running, so the problem can't be that bad. Beavis 01-05-2003, 11:25 PM The noise is a retcheting popping noise wile making tight slow turns, it's a perfectly normal noise from a clutch type diff and not a sign of any problem. The noise should lesson as the diff breaks in. BMW has a diff oil with greater amout of slip modifier in it to quiet noiseier diffs. Current production cars are not affected, earlier cars were. |
