So I finally got to drive with my GPSr after realizing that I was doing 90 all the time in my '76 '02. My Speedo is about 13 miles an hour off at 65 miles an hour. Can I adjust the speedo to be accurate? Just wanted to check before I tear into the dash at 24 degrees F.

Also how do I tell what rearend I have on my car? As I have recently bought it I am finding our all sorts of new stuff. The last is that I have Suspension techniques springs all around.

Thanks

Theres a tag on a bolt at the case cover diff that tells you. S means limited slip. Dunno about the speedo. go to 2002faq.org or something simliar

Historically, the 1976 USA model 2002's were off (reading higher than normal) as delivered to the USA from BMW because of the 3:91 rear end they chose to install to increase the performance of an engine with considerable power robbing emission controls. It was an oversight from the 3:64 ratio in earlier years for the USA cars.

So, to fix it, there was originally a recall and BMW put stickers on the face to correct the problem.

In the year 2006 you have some options:

1) Use your GPS and live with it.

2) Change your tires and wheels to a stock size. Are your tire dimensions stock? This will have a dramatic effect if they are the wrong height top to bottom. (please elaborate, we can probably help you on this)

3a) Have your speedo recalibrated by North Hollywood Speedometer in Los Angeles, $$$$

3b) Contact Curt Ingraham (tiigarage@aol.com) about his speedo fix for this. He's probably more reasonable.

Post more info, we don't want you to work in the cold on something you can't fix easily either!
