Are v-band clamps air tight? would they be fine if i used one on a charge pipe???

thanks

As long as the faces of the flanges are qualiuty and flat, and clamped properly, they will be air tight. However, lower end vbands that are warped and were not manufactured straight could potentially leak.

The TIAL bov uses a vband to clamp the BOV to the bung so I assume they are good and air tight.

thats what i was thinking ive just never seen it done before...

High end vbands are machined, cheaper ones are stamped metal and surface ground... they leak. Why do you need vbands for chargepiping?

tial vbands are awesome but not sure if you can buy em in 2.5/3 sizes. Larger garrett turbos etc have vbands on the compressor side :)

well im doing a top mount set up right now and i was thinking about how my turbo is right up front it would look pretty good with a v-band clamp instead of silicone and two t-bolts

Wiggins clamps are essentially 'v-band' type connections. But at ~$200/ea it get's expensive.

i thought about wiggins but i cant see spending that price for a clamp.

It's really the only way to do it 'right', as it allows for some flex in the coupling. With a standard v-band setup, you won't be able to have any flex in the joint at all which could lead to some difficult to pin down boost leaks when the motor leans a bit under load.

would a anitlag setup on a gt4088 cause any flex on the charge pipe ;) :help

dont worry i have 19"s i dont expect it to spool till 3700-4000 anyways until i setup nitrous which will be later seems how im not done with the straight turbo setup.

My turbo has a v-band on the compressor housing.

my downpipe is v-banded to exhaust

my exhast is vbanded also, but if that had a slight leak at any time it wouldnt result with any "bad" happening. im just not wanting to be ripping down the freeway WOT and have a severe boost leak.

if you decid the 40 isn't big enough, you can always get a GT42R which is brand new actually looking for a good home. ;)

i think the gt4088 will do fine ill need to build the motor for sure if i drop a turbo the size of a large cat in the engine bay.

I found that mine leaked a little bit - so before i sent everything out for jethot, i filed them all flat. some had a slight warp in them - enough to cause a leak.

i was thinking about using copper spray on the surface before they go back together? any thoughts on that?
