I have a 95 540i. I recently did a high speed test and found out where the governer is and it has GOT TO GO! I was wondering if it is possible to install it myself or would most companies want meto send my ECU out to them?

You can buy a JC or an EAT chip for about $200-250. It will give you more hp/tq, can raise the rev limiter (if you want) and yes, will remove the top speed limiter.
You can install it yourself in about 30min. Its not all that hard, but delicate, as you are handling computer hardware. Both companies want your current ECU number so they can select the chip that is right for you, per your specfications.

fantastic! the rev limiter is fine where it is (6250) but its the 130mph limit is what has to go

I prefer JC.. but EAT is good as well.

actually for 95 540i they have to get a file off the DME before they can burn a chip. This chip cannot be used on another 540i. it is due to the DWE 2 or something.

Some guy from Germany on Ebay is selling M60 chips for $170 shipped. (Ebay # 320057747403 ).
I don't know anything about them, nor how they compare with Dinan, COnforti, EAT, Racing Dynamics and whomever else makes them.
If anybody has one and likes it, let me know.
