I posting this here 'cos I can't send you a PM or email you.

I would like some comments from you or anyone else on the GT30 series turbos. What RPM did it make full boost and what's the spool time like on them?

I have been keeping an eye on your threads and I must say, that equal length header you have built is a work of art! You really know your stuff when it comes to turbocharging....

Anyway, Im still in the R/D stages of my turbo build. Got "Turbocharged" by Corky Bell and "Forced Induction Tuning" by A Graham Bell sitting on my desk, very interesting reading but complicating too.
Im going to build up a 2.0lt M42 with aftermarket forged internals keeping to around 9.0:1 compression, don't want to lose too much on the bottom since it is still a 4cyl. Im also going to run a large TB before the turbo to keep the turbo spooled and not need a DV, I don't want a laggy setup, always liked the idea of a sleeper. (still have my 318i badge on the back)

I want to run 0.8bar daily on 95 pump fuel and a good mapping. For the track, maybe 1.5bar on 102 race gas. Not sure of power figures, currently my NA 2.0lt M42 is making 158Whp, would 350Whp be asking too much?

Lastly, would the GT28 be better for my needs over the GT30?

Finally decided to go FI?

Ive got my motor torn down now. Crank is in (M47N) and I have a set of M42 rods. Getting ready to order my pistons soon. Block is going off to the machine shop to get bored to Euro M3 piston specs and cleaned up then back to me for assembly. Should be at 2.1-2.2L M44. The I start the custom CF supercharger route. Guess we are exploring both ends of the FI spectrum on these frankenmotors. Good luck with your build.

DId you ever see Raima's CF s/c'ed M42? Its the only one that comes to mind for the CF route.

Heard of it...saw he was getting roughly 300whp at 20psi on the stock motor. Figure if I bump boost to 25psi or so, and with the bore/stroke, I should be able to reach towards 350ish or more. Thats my goal.

Now to find someone willing to tune it. :devillook Might consider trying to talk George or NickG into playing with it.

Based on all the Miata stuff I do...I would say stick with a GT2870 aka: the disco potato, all the miata guys run them. If you are doing road course you dont need the GT30...Some Miata guys even prefer the GT2560 for more of a flat power band. The GT2870 on a 2.0 would probably be about perfect. They regularly make 300whp with them. The HP/TRQ curves are super! My Turbo Miata feels like it has V8 in it! I call it the instabooster....Its one fun car...with just 6.5psi on my 1.6 I made right at 160whp...

err on the small side for road course use...you won't be unhappy...

Thank you for asking. Got a lot going on in my life so trying to stay away from bfc but it's tough. That is why I disabled PMs.

So! GT30R would be great I think because you are honest toward youself about who you are. You know yourself well enough that once you get maybe 300whp you'll want 350whp and then more.

The nice thing about the GT30R is it has a wonderful little range and turbine housing a/rs are your best friend. I was boosting probably 28-2900full boost I think on the 3.2 with a 0.82 a/r turbine housing which was stupid quick. I would suggest a 0.63 or .68 turbine housing for your 2.0L.

FYI: I know a guy with a 2.0L and a T3 GT30R 0.82 a/r who made 498whp on a Mustang Dyno. :wave

Thank you for the compliments as well! I am getting excited since things are now moving. :)

Thank you for your reply. Just the knid of answer I was hoping for.

This guy you know with 498whp on a 2.0lt, what car/engine and whats been done to the motor? What kind of boost numbers is he running? and when does he reach full boost?

They didn't update the site but the tuner told me they made a run at 498whp. click here (http://www.danzioperformance.com/projectcar_4.asp)

Here is a racing video of it making about 400whp and running 11.00@133. click here and scroll to look for Ryan Carwin (http://www.danzioperformance.com/videos.asp)

Oops, as you can see...new video him making 520whp

He has 8.0:1CR which is real low so he gets full boost at 4000rpm with the 0.82 GT30R. Higher cr and lower a/r would spool way faster. Boost is around 30 or so.

Thanx.

A friend of mine who owns a tuning shop built up a 2.0lt M42 after hearing my success with the conversion. He dropped in CP pistons, Pauter rods, turbo cams and headwork, 7.5:1comp. He then bolted a Turbonetics T67 hybrid turbo onto the M42 @ 2.2bar boost and dropped the motor into a E30 333i. On semi-slicks he managed 11.0sec@138mph, very quick for a street car. This is one of the reasons why Im going the turbo route now..

I will try get some pics of his setup and post 'em.

See if you can steal his custom piston specs and PM me with them. Be greatly appreciated.
