Do these help lift the trunk deck up or just keep it from dropping quickly?

The reason I ask is, that when I push the button, the truck doesn't 'pop' up off the latch. It requires two hand to get it started. It stays up w/o a problem, but will close quickly ones you start in that direction.

The same goes for the front hood. It stays up, but requires a good hand on it when closing.

Since I don't know what they did when new, I'm not sure if they need to be replaced. They are cheap and easy enough to swap out if needed.
