Hey guys. This is just a question out of curiosity, and I by no means plan on doing this, but I just wanted to see what it would be like....

What would it be like to install lowering springs on the e34, while retaining stock shocks? How long could you expect to go before they died? And would the ride be terrible?

Dont worry guys, Im not doing it. Im buying everything together fairly soon. . .

bad idea you will wear them out quick and have to go in there again. Its a lot easier doing both the first time around, although new Konis are ~$600 I believe...

554 shipped from a guy on ebay, not sure if you get the manufacturers warranty transferred over though

I had the bavauto springs on stock shocks and it lasted maybe 3 months...

My car felt good for like 3 months and then the shocks were cashed

KONI adjustables are the greatest thing ever for a lowered E34!!!!!!!

Vogtland springs on stock boges up front and what I think might be sachs in the rear. 6 months and about 5K miles with no problems. :dunno :rolleyes

ditto, I have eibach springs on stock shocks. They've been on for about 3 months and 3000 miles without any noticable problems

I'm not going to do it, just because I've always heard that the ride quality turns to absolute shit.

Ebay has some nice prices...thinking about:
H&R Sport or Vogtland
Bilstein Sport

It really depends on how new your oem strut are..
If you are running 100000 miles on oem strut then you decide to put in lowering springs - well yes it will worn out to begin with

But if you just change the strut maybe 20-30K miles ago or less. It should be OK to put in lowering springs.

On my 525i I prefer OEM Boge strut over Bilstein HD for a good ride. I used Eibach on it. The ride is great with 750il Thrust bushings.

Koni yellows are lifetime warrenty, if purchased from an authorized seller.

Ebay is most likely excluded.

Did you have to mod your strut mounts, or are the Koni's a bolt-on?

Also, what springs are you running?

Bolt in. It took me about 45 min. per side in the front. The springs are vogtland. I got my shocks from tire rack. They were more than eBay, but were the cheapest I could find new. I think I paid $340 or so for the fronts. I wouldn't get them without the warranty!!!

stock shocks work okay if they're still in good shape.

but i agree, koni yellows are awesome for the e34!

stock shocks plus an aftermarket shorter spring, you are only prolonging the inevitable..... i need to replace the shocks on my car and im going to order bilstein tourings off bavauto this weekend.. they are only 288.80 shipped for all four!!!!! i figure while im in there i might as well throw on some H&R springs too!!!!!!

Yeah, I was just curious. I would never do it personally, but I was wondering how the good old boge shocks held up under pressure. I thinking of getting some racing dynamics springs, and am unsure on shocks as of now.
