hi i havea e36 and was wondering how do i reset my service lights i have been told it only takes a second????

i have recently replaced my stock 1'6i wich i killed with anoughter 1.6i wich i lol killed, so i then got a 1.9ti chiped and tuned but the servicelight is on from my first engine evan tho i have changed all the sensors,oil ect.....

any help very much apriceated cheers macca

well, what I did was took a regular old wire, spliced both ends, so that there was about 1/2 an inch of copper wire on each side.
turn your key to acc. (the one before you turn the car on)
stick the wire in diagnostic port #7 with one side, and #19 with the other, hold it there for about 5 seconds, then remove the wire, and check the service light. if it didnt work, try it again, and if not then search the forums, theres a bunch of DIYers.

naa thats correct. dont use the wire though, use a paper clip. have someone hold it for you while you flip the accessory on

either or. paperclip worked for my ti. didn't when we tried for tonyyy's, wire fixed his lights.

weird. wouldnt think wire would work well. anyways, whada ya expect from ghettoizing a dealer reset light?

yep, tried the paperclip 3 or so times, and didnt cut it.
so tried the wire, and did it, first try.

cheers m8's i have done that worked fine but it some how wiped out my rev-counter, temp-gauge & mpg clocks hows that happened???????

i have checked fuses underbonnet and there is nothing wrong with em!!

did you accidentally put the wire/paperclip in the wrong hole by accident ?

what year is your car because if you have a 96+ thats OBD2 and I don't think it will work the same as a 95 or below.

no m8 i toutched one end of wire to 7and other to earth on chassy,

its a N-reg engine m8 i fitted it my self and fitted brend new engine loom for it.

i have found problem m8 it was the earth strap had frayed. silly me lol

and N-reg is the year of the car the engine came out of.
