I really want to get a better set of headlights for the bimmer....on bavauto they have the hella quartz replacements....do these convert it to an H4 bulb? Or is it just a hella sealed beam? Im kind of confused. I would really like to upgrade the low beams and high beams. Any help would be great. Thanks

I have a set of Hella Lights for the E21 (Flat Lense) that are not Sealed Beams. Let me know if you are interested. I was planning on putting them on Ebay since these would also fit the E30 and E24 as well. I also have the Hella light brackets to go with the lights.

if you guys want better lighting you really should be checking the old school watercooled vw parts websites. im noticing everyone here just uses sealed beams or minor upgrades like euro lights and H4 conversions. granted some suppliers actually have crappy lights that look good but suck on light output (anything crystal off ebay for example)

or try to use some Delta lights (H4 E Code) with a single euro grill conversion at least. cant hate on anything that has a 2600 foot reflective range

What size bulb do they use? And what do i do about wiring?

Im big into dubs and know alot of people, ill ask them about some lights and stuff for older models. I used to restore old school aircooled, but rarely had anyone want anything but the original sealed beams. And when they did want H4 conversions they picked the crappy stuff.

HID drop in kits to normal halogen reflector headlights isnt street legal either....but they are a dime a dozen ;)

"youre blinding other drivers"

"tell them not to look at my lights"

150w high beams are still going to be the best driving lights you ever find :stickoutt There is a point where you just cant beat the extra wattage, the distance it projects, especially without a reflector in the way is just amazing. :D

ill go ahead tonight or today at work if i have time and give you guys the rundown on lights available. seems like people here dont know the beauty of smoked crosshairs for example...

ill give you guys a full list of links and pictures to help out a bit as soon as i have time.

I wish I had smoked crosshairs, those are sick. They look like a roundel on your headlights. When I replace my H4's I want to go with smoked euro ellipsoids and smoked crosshair brights (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-E30-M3-SMOKED-HELLA-DE-Ellipsoid-Headlights-EURO_W0QQitemZ300057141129QQihZ020QQcategoryZ33710 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem), at least until you enlighten me.

The only problem is spending $400 on headlights when I have free H4's and would rather spend my next $600 on coil over's and camber plates.

crystal ecodes are only 125 for the set at vivid wonders....even after bulbs, and relaying the lights its about 200 (if you guys dont do this you really should, not sure how the e21 harness is just yet since i dont pick my 320i up till tomorrow or so)

but ill look into it and make relay harnesses, if needed. ive fabbed up tons for the VW people, its just basic electrical connectors

and not being able to post pics is getting on my nerves...and im not post bombing just to do that.

what is an ellipsoid? what makes it so great? and whats the difference in regular lights?

ellipsoid lights are projector beams. very concentrated, very high light output. if someone has the itch to try i have a set of 2006 ZX10 projectors i have laying around the shop (im a service manager at a pretty large suz/kaw/seadoo shop)

but they also make lights just like the H4 conversion that have a built in projector, and are glass to withstand HID use (usually)

Josh I have the cross hairs on my DD 91 Golf. I will take a picture
they are just ok.

Ellips are better.and one of the best upgrades for lighting. the cross hairs do nothing for a car's handling...
get the coil overs..

I have a set of Ecodes with some sandblasting on them, It is not severe but is there any way to get them looking like new? i was wondering if i had them super clean and put the protective plastic covers over them if they would look like they were not sandblasted?

if the glass is pitted, you can have them cut, same people that remove scratches etc in windows.

MY 323 has euro lights with the ciity lights an all, my passenger side high beam light is cracked. the PO installed these plastic domes in front of the lights, my guess is to keep more of them from being cracked...where can I pick up a euro replacement high beam light from?

I replaced my stock sealed beams with these from Classic Garage. They have been on the car for over a year, and they are a vast improvement over the sealed beams. I am very happy with the beam pattern, as well as the brightness...and for the price it is a great deal. I have never owned Hellas for my E21 so do not know how they compare with them.
