hey everyone! I'm thinking about moving to charleston, sc in the near future. I've googled the area and it seems to be a awesome place to live. Can anyone give me any input about the area?

Are cars required to have a safety and emission inspection? what are some areas to avoid? How much are homes going for nowadays (1500sq ft is fine for me)? traffic conditions? thanks!

There is absolutely no vehicle inspection of any kind, and no plans for that to change.

There really aren't any areas in Charleston to avoid. North Charleston, however, does have some seriously bad spots.

Housing is VERY expensive. In general, the cost of living is quite high here. For example, when I moved here from NC my auto insurance more than doubled. I have a spotless record. It's a very expensive place.

Overall, the traffic isn't bad because the pop isn't huge. It does, however, continue to get worse as Chas continues to grow rapidly. Planning in that regard is quite poor.

Anyway... I've been here for 3.5 years now, and have lived in several diff parts of town. If you want to PM me your info, I can give you more details....

turbo pretty much covered everything

If you want to have the city of charleston experience living downtown is a must. I have lived downtown for the last three years and I would not have it any other way.

Aside from housing costs, cost of living is not outrageous. My auto insurance was cut in half when I moved to south carolina. Bars are expensive but still much cheaper then the northeast.

if you have a laid back personality and enjoy the south, you will love charleston. Ive been down here for 3.5 years and I have loved every second of it.

Did I mention there is an excess of hot college chicks and the beach is less then 20 mins away?

James is a good place to be because you can basically be midway between downtown and Folly beach.
