:rolleyes:helpOK gurus. Tell me how a 2004 330I w/ZHP stacks up against a 2000 B5 Audi S4? Competitive in stock form? Let me hear your thoughts on pros and cons...don't be shy. Thanks

Welllll, once the S4 is out of the shop, I think it would be far ahead of the ZHP for the sake of the AWD alone.

Then the 330 would get ahead at the restaurant...as in the valet would park it closer to the door.

Otherwise, neck in neck.

one swell foop

I'm a valet on some evenings, and sorry to say, but your 330 would be sitting further away than a well taken care of S4. At least if any valet that you would want to let drive your car was parking it.

lol, try E46Fanatics.com that's where you'll probably get best answers as there are far more E46 owners than here.

Haha...well, at least it's clear that you are brand loyal. Vdub/Audi n all.

I know the S4 is a sub 6 second car at least...but like I said...issues.

A quote from Audiworld:

"The following are a list of S4 problems that I've compiled after reading Audiworld for nearly 2 years. Some of these may be one time fixes that are corrected at the dealership under warranty, but may be something you want to look for in a potential purchase.

#1. Turbo failure: clearly this is a big problem, as the repair will run you >$6000 if you are not under warranty (not a typo!), but it is usually attributable to one of a few weak points in the system

He lists 7 more common probs totalling a repair of $7500 and that does not sounds like comfy car ownership to me."

I considered one about 2-3 years ago but I was hearing about this kind of thing at that time and thought twice. Otherwise, yeah, fun as all hell...decent design and don't even talk about the new RS4...spanked my buddy's 06 M3 SMG (what a terrible tranny!)

Competitive in what way? Acceleration? Handling? Dependability? Resale? What?

You want more problems with a car than dating Pam Anderson, then go buy a Benz.

Just for the mere fact that the Audi is 4 years older and no longer warrantied I would avoid it, but for no other reason.

That's what ahhhmmm talkin about. The benz's door handle came off when the valet got into the car...but it is indeed parked next to the Bimmer....by the door.:alright

both are nice, but ZHP FTW! Handling is just awesome on it and feels much more stable than the heavy S4's. Plus, the S4's understeer like a beotch.

You dont want a B5 Audi.
Trust me.
ZHP is the winner, hands down no comparison.
ZHP = 235 RWD HP
S4 = 252 AWD HP Stock If I'm not mistaken.
E46, while I'm not 100% sure, I would guess is lighter thanks to not bveing bogged down by that effecive but heavy AWD system. Also, the turbos on that S4 will blow, its not an "if" but a "when."
BMW inline 6 = bulletproof, reason they've been using it forever.

ZHP.

B5 S4 for us market had 240bhp, and everything on it is prone to break.

What the hell had 252 I've always had that number stuck in my head.
And yes, everything on it is prone to break no doubt about it.

Actually the current S4 is a lot more improved than earlier model years. The new S4 is a naturally aspirated 4.2L V8 (340HP) with AWD.

The A4 and S4 have made significant changes since 2004 and are coaxing the bugs out of their engines. They're no BMW Inline-6, but certainly arent as bad as they used to be. Bang-for-your-buck, however is relatively low. There are certainly better cars for the money.

The 00 A4, however is nothing but problems. Go for the BMW.. the 2004-2005 3-series are among the best E46 models made. There is more to a car than the difference in a few HP.. Fact is you will be smiling more in a BMW, and it will probably still be under warranty.

In maykinit's introduction...I think we're late on advising which car to go for...hope he loves the car and hates money.

Oh for sure, the new S4 and RS4 are getting worldwide accolades...even winning comparisons against the outgoing M3, which will get corrected in 07, I'm sure.
