View Full Version : List the 5 mods you hate

We all have different taste regarding cars which is a great thing but I thought it would be interesting to see what mods people think suck big time, regardless of it being for performance, looks etc, heres my list! What stuff do you guys see which think sucks hard and makes you hit rev limit???

1. Air brushing murals, most of this stuff sucks hard, occasionally you see some neat stuff like Mr Crx which is pretty crazy but still tasteful but the majority of "artwork" is not impressive for me.
2. Gauges mounted on the bonnet of late model cars, big no no.
On an XY Falcon, Torana, RX3, Escort, Datto 1600 it looks cool, on a WRX, EXA or CRX it does not. Monster tachos in otherwise stock cars like excels, WTF?????
3. Fugly Chrome wheels, the like which Tempe Tyres and Ozzy Tyres sell. Never seen any I like, call me old fashioned but BBS, OZ and Simmons make the wheels to have in my opinion.
4. Ugly body styling, some stuff is an improvement but a lot of it makes some cars look uglier then they were to begin with.
5. Blow off valves on stock as turbo cars, get real like you really need it!

CafeRacer

And the awards go to....
*drumroll*

(1) "sportz exhaustz" on automatics
(2) "Altezza" tail lights
(3) Monster Tachos on cars which already have a tacho... extra points for a shift light
(4) Anything pink on a car
(5) Rear spoilers more than 20cm high (even thats pushing it). (We all know Excels need all that downforce of a 3foot rear wing whilst doing "hard laps" of the block hey... )
and;
(6) Bright yellow turbocharged bmw 2002s
:mdrbig :laugh :evil2  :stickoutt

And dont forget theres also the runners up, who unfortunately could not make it tonight, as they had prior engagements with Excels, Lancers, Mirages and the odd VN, including: "Racing Stripes" by My Next Mods Are Speedholes, "Bounce Bounce Bounce" by Standard Shocks and Cut Springs, and last but not least "Wheres the fuckn off Button!?!?" by The Single Rear Excel Foglight". Thank you and goodnight everyone

well, this one is a Jersey list and it's probably going to offend people but hey, I'm from jersey and I don't give an F-. :D

in no particular order:

1. Blue lights - I don't care if they're super hyper mega blue HID Xenon filled, blue lights = rice

2. the half-chrome half limo tint - make up your mind, you damn car looks like a pair of sunglasses from the 80's now.

3. painting factory calipers anything but black...it just makes them look smaller.

4. painting drum rotors....why?????????

5. LED washer nozzels - well at least they aren't "HID look"

5.1. anything from Giovanna wheels

the sad part is that I could probably get the wheels included in that price too. :D

oh yeah, gotta add the freakin' CD hanging from the mirror - what the heck is that about? You know that car has an 8 track and nothing better.

1. "Sponsership" stickers and playboy bunny stickers on starlets and swifts

2. Stupid looking canon mufflers on non-performance/grocery getting cars

3. HSV stickers on commodores (usually mid 80s models with mullets driving them)

4.Tag stickers on cars, what do watches have to do with your car?

5.Monster tacho :complain

The biggest thing that I hate is when you toast one of these idiots and they get mad. what the hell do they expect, they just spent $4,000 upgrading a POS and now it is just a POS with mods.

GeeTeeVeeSei

*Clear Tail Lights and Indicator Lenses
*Carbon Parts that serve no purpose- like I remember someone listed carbon ash trays in their mod list for their E36- WTF?

IMO, As a rule, the whole Auto Salon Bodykit/Airbrushing/Chrome Wheels late model exclusivity thing is just crap. They need to get a good rotor in there to show em who's boss.

Beema

3. Painted calipers (other than black or upgraded ones such at AP's etc)
4. M3 body kits on non M3's (if you want the M3 look go buy one!)
5. T - Wings (errrr what good are they unless you have a Pikes peak car?)

Ohh i could go on all day but you only asked for 5 things. ;)

BMWBOY
01-01-2003, 06:47 AM

*fully sik kick-on chrome hubcaps:boobies
*18inch wheels, that are only 7inches wide....
they look wrong...
*M3-style mirrors on NON-bmws....
*anything done to a Toyota Hilux, or similar style ute.... dont get me started
*the opposite of Retro, eg putting e36-copy bodykits on E30s etc.

nicot

1. Having other tuners decals on a different marque. eg Nissan GTR badge on a Mini Cooper, Nismo on a Honda.

2. Cars that are undriveable due to their ride height.

3. Unsafe mods such as chopped springs.

4. Mods that dont exist. eg. a 5 series with dual exhaust ala M5 except the right hand side tips are just tips and hollow.

5. A non BMW engine in a BMW and still call it a BMW.

EZ 2002
01-01-2003, 09:28 AM
Ok another five mods that make me go nuts:

1. Making out a stock car is something which its not eg e36 318is dressed up like to look like an M3 or a R33 GTST looking like a GTR
2. NOS on stock standard cars, how fast can you say torched pistons? On a proper drag car ok but not on a late model show pony.
3. Any form of dumb lighting, like neons or those stupid blue lights on washer jets on cars bonnets that light up at night.
4. Interiors that are made to look like they're trimmed in leather when really they're done in some cheap arse look a like material, usually in some tacky colour too
5. Wanker number plates on weak as piss cars. Stuff that makes out its an animal even though it wouldn't pull 14s. I like stuff like DUZ10Z, HIRPM, GOTAGO, or things that have got to do with the car eg TUF13B for a Mazda but crap like PEAKEN, RAVER, WHYTRY, PLAYER, O2SEXY, SEX DR get over it
One I saw on a stock WRX bar a 3 inch exhaust was a classic BRUT4S, ah sorry don't think so!

buckchoi
01-01-2003, 09:53 AM
1) Huge chrome wheels on a car with tiny discs or even worse DRUMS!

2) Huge drain pipe sized exhausts on cars that make it sound so damn loud but are so damn slow.....eg bloody Excels

3) Excessive stickers! worse if its on the wrong car....like Ralliart on a Volvo i've seen!

4) Cars that are so low that they lose their front bumper whenever they try to get up a carpark ramp

5) The really excessive bodykits....like the really edgy/pointed fronts on some cars.

Well.. not much different from you guys....

1. Airbrush paint

2. Sponsership Stikers

3. I am fine with 3 series with m3 kits on, because it looks HOT and GOOD.... but turn me off with "///M3" badge on any non m3 3 series.... There is one Avus blue 325/328 (with Queensland reg.) in Wilson Car Park on Elgin Street in the City... what a joke, even with the white M3 Vador Seats, m3 style after market exhaust, E46 replica M3 rims.... why not just go buy a real one, it might turn out to be cheaper that way!

4. Paint calipers... damn.... myself have 2 pairs on my car while I got the car... they are all in Estoril blue... really dont like them!

5. Loud exhaust

cheers,

richie

5) Moster Tacho's on cars that already have a tacho, or on Excels and the like. (Unless there is a genuine reason for it being there)
------------- have to keep gonig guys---------
6) External Guages on the bonnet of cars
7) Dickheads who cruize with there stock stereo's up so loud it distorts
8) Extavigant Bodykits with pointy Ends
9) Altezza Lights

Drive it like you stole it-

Ok i can understand what he's saying when it was on a Lancer GL 1.5 Coupe with Evo wannabe bumper and wing on stock rims- they look crap those cars, and I pray that the car was stolen off him so that he can seriously rethink his choice.

Only Milk & Juice Come In Two Litres

Aaahhhh the old adage of the front heavy iron engined live arse ended indigenously produced (engineered not being the right word for such shite) tanks that generally go no where- most of these stickers got put on VB Crumpledoors or HQ Utes with emissions struggled 253Ci V8s. A SSS will shite all over one of these cars, if it doesnt destroy its own bottom end through oil surge first.

I have some friends from school who are suckers of all these AutoSalon type crazes- one drives a stock Alfa 75 2.0 with te plate MR 75 and another a stock Eunos 30x with the plate SIR.30X.
Nice guys, just do something to your car BEFORE you put the plate on.

1. Any sort of video in a performance car.

2. Angel/Demon eyes whatever you call them. If you don't own an e39 5 or E65 7 you shouldn't have them.

3. Clear corners. Why?

4. Any type of stickers.

5. Slamming the hell out of your car to the point where you scrape everywhere and have rubbing problems.

how popular are public drag strips in your area? we've got alot of ricers who hit up the "battle of the imports" shows and run what ever they've got.

you know that bracket racing is when the driver dials in the time he wants to achieve -hence the time written on the car- and runs his best to meet that time.

it's best for cars that aren't meant to be running a 1/4mile - like your average honda accord. :)

Looking at the picture in your sig, it appears as if you are contradicting yourself on this comment. From what I can see, it appears as if that is just a regular 3 series with M wheels. What does the badge on the trunklid say? I can't read it, but I know it's not an ///M badge.

Edit... Okay, I just saw in the lower right corner that the car is a 320i, so why are you trying to make it look like an M3? If you wanted the M3 look, why didn't YOU just buy one???

There not "M" Contour wheels, they however are BMW wheels in the same design except the little "M" badge and the ring/ridge around the center holes.
Anyway if you could read i wrote M3 body kits not M3 wheels. :awink:

What difference does it make if its wheels or a bodykit? Either way, you are making you're car look like an M3. I'm not saying that it is a bad thing to do, but you stated that if someone likes the look of an M3 then they should just buy one.

You obviously like the look of the M contours, which is why you got a set that is virtually identical in design, so what is the difference between someone who likes the look of the M3 bodykit on their "normal" 3 series versus you liking the look of the M contours on yours?

Many people out there can't afford to purchase or insure an M3, so they shouldn't be frowned upon if they wish to enhance the appearance of their car with components that mimic an M3's, especially from someone who does it himself.

Beema
01-17-2003, 03:47 AM
1. I didnt get / buy a set, they were on the car when i bought it and to be honist i would not have known if they were BMW rims, at that time i didnt know hardly anything about BMW's and i wasnt looking for one either, just the right car at the right time / place and price.
2. There is a huge difference between wheels and body kits.
3. This thread is about what 5 mods you hate (you meaning me in this case) and i shouldnt need to justfiy why i dont like something, that question was not asked.
4. How do you know i "odviously like the look" of them? As a matter of fact i like heaps of other wheels better! Just cant afford to get different ones yet.
5. I know lots of ppl cant afford to insure an M3, but that is not the topic here.
6. I love M3's, and id buy one in a flash if i had the money, but i refuse to try and make my car look like something its not. Thats just me or arnt i allowed to have my own opinion? Maybe ill pm you my address and you can send me yours over and ill install it, kinda like a clone thing going on. :laugh

yep thats right! only variants of the 5 and 10 spoke wheel..

but the contours were available as a factory 17" option for anyone who wanted it!

so whats wrong with putting M wheels on a non-M car that are a factory option anyway :dunno :95
with M wheels their styling suits the shape of the car best and they fit perfectly!

E46's with sport package come with wheels that have M badges on them.. and its not because they want to be M3's..

Drainpipe exhausts- the type you would see on a well riced 200sx.

Aluminium wings on street cars- in fact any wing on any street car.

Jetspeed bodyshite- not at all attractive.

Chameleon paint.

Anything not a commodore painted in the VT gold.

and again, just to make sure its a valid point, fcuking chrome rims.

Especially the ones that spin. yuk. go to california pimp boy
