Hey guys,

First off, I must admit I don't know much about the 740iL (I'm a '76 2002 owner). I picked up my uncle's '97 740iL to take for a spin and found the following issues. Can you please comment on the problem, possible fix and where to get parts ?

1) After driving a bit sportily (I know, shame on me), with a few seconds on WOT, hard acceleration, etc, one or more of the cylinders seems to drop off. If you turn off and turn on, all cylinders fire.

2) Need the window 4-way adjustment button on driver side.

3) Check Engine light comes on at WOT accel.

4) Airbag light is always on.

5) All LCD displays are missing parts of characters.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :help

Hope I can help!

1. and 3. could both be caused by bad MAF or CPS. Go to autozone, borrow their scanner and read the codes! You'll probably find at least one stored in the computer.

2. you mean the round button for your exterior mirrors? The entire switch has to be replaced as a unit. Look on eBay!

4. You'll need either a Peake SRS tool or have dealer/indy find the fault code! May be as simple as your battery dying!

5. Search here, http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/e38 and http://www.e38.org for pixel, follow the instructions to contact BMWNA and try for a goodwill replacement!

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

If it is your switch, I have and extra. I upgraded to folding mirrors and replaced with the folding button switch. If you are interested...PM me?
