Ok so my check engine soon light came on. It has been running fine until yesterday (our first day of cold weather/freezing 32 degrees). Tempature is fine and the engine runs smooth when the engine warms up. My gas mileage went from almost 20 to 16 mpg. I am going to advanced auto to have OBD checked today. I have a peake code reader but don't know how to use it. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

By the way my service bar indicator is almost red; could this cause the check engine light.

Did you peake reader come with instructions and is it the MultiFunction one Check Engine & Service reset?

Ok on the first page of the instructions it gives you the instructions of how to insert it into your vehicle reader and what the initial code is that will relate to the section of your manual that has the error codes that will corrospond to the reading on your Peake tool. Follow the instructions and it is a snap

Check here it appears to be a vacume issue

Also you can download the peak manual from Bavauto.com

Well, I spoke with the shop foreman at momentum bmw and he said it could be a cracked or broken vacuum line or the evap pump.

Well I changed the oil and filter and disconnected the battery to try and reset the check engine light. I get finshed and the cars start and about to seconds later it turns off. I try restarting the car and it repeats the problem again. After a few tries it start up for a little while longer but is running really rough and then dies again after a few minutes. Could I have done something wrong? Could this be a battery issue? I talked to the dealer on Sat. and he said the EVAP code is usually for the EVAP pump or a vacuum line. :help

I am really becoming upset due to the fact this is my first BMW and I am having so much trouble.:(

Please if someone can help chime in..

EDIT:Nevermind. It seems I had to keep the engine at high rpms for a sustained period of time to let fuel pass through the system. The car runs very smooth at idol and is no longer sputtering. The check engine soon light is off (for now) and seems well. I will keep everyone posted if this problem arises again.
