Anybody else notice more cops around? Any place in particular to watch out for them?

Just keep it 5 - 7 mph over and you should be safe. Tons of blue & whites on Kal Hwy gunning at night.

Laser? That is all that we see here. Anyone interested in a mint V1? :confused

Yup they're shooting laser, it sets off my V1 all the time! Probably the most it's been set off since I got it from AlwaysSilver (Dirk). I've been using the remote display so for some added fun at night I pull the lighter plug and plug it back in. That sets off all the lights on the detector. I tap the brake and everyone else does the same. :biglaughb

i just got out off an extended unemployment stint. i couldn't afford any fines or extra gas and that really changed my driving habits. also with my car getting towards 120k mls i try to take it easy. rear suspension bushings need replacement too and that also changed my driving habits. i usually notice more cops towards the end of the month when they are making qouta(sp?)
also with the roads being so shitty i dont bother trying to gas it around much anymore either

I stop someone 2 week ago for speeding using laser. He was going 56 mph on 40 limit. He was the only vehicle on the road at that time. He gave me crap saying that he was not speeding and kept mouthing off. I kept cool, I'm a mellow person. He said that there is no way that he was speeding because he was using a laser detector, and pointing at the dash, insisting he will fight the ticket. I laugh and told him I should gave him another ticket for that, but I did't and however, I put that info on the ticket for the judge to see. He wrote down my name and laser info. My backup and I asked him if he want to see the laser. The laser was still locked on the vehicle speed and you guys should have seen his reaction. His jaw dropped, walked back like a bitch to his vehicle, and slammed his door. I then told him have a nice night.

A few areas I've seen them repeatedly:

Leaving waikiki on Monsarrat by the Shell, they hide out in the parking lot just beyond the shell, on the right hand side.

In Palolo Valley, on 10th Ave, and Palolo Ave, usually about half way up the valley on both streets.

In Kahala, on Kahala Ave, by Triangle Park, they tag you as you crest the hill headed towards Diamond Head.

Kapiolani Park, by the tennis courts near the Aquarium (makai side of park). The Ewa bound lane is only 15mph while the DH bound lane is 25mph. This one is like shooting fish in a barrel for them. People leave Waikiki, see the 25mph sign and drive 30. They go to the Diamond Head lookout then decide to head back to Waikiki. They drive 30. Zap.

What those areas seem to have in common is a gentle hill or nice curve where you come in to view, then they tag you before you see them.

You know, one place they don't do laser is where they think the average joe's vehicle can't be speeding. Like roads with tight curves. So if there are some on my route, I'll carry my (legal) speed through the curves rather than scrub velocity. Folks who are waiting for my brake lights get a rude surprise when i sail through and they're pushing in to a curb.

Spaking of lasers, if anyone here like tinkering with stuff, these are supposed to rock: http://wickedlasers.com/products.php?content=advanced

If anyone has one of these puppies, can you bring it to a monthly meeting?? :D

One of my friends has lots of lasers. He has some that pop balloons from the other side of the room and some that will light a dry leaf on fire. Cool sh*t.

so you're a police officer? I got a question for you. Back in my younger days when I had my crx I got ticketed for speeding one time on the freeway town-mound just after red hill. He was gunning just before the aiea off-ramp. I seen him gunning and didn't think anything of it cuz I was going about 60 maaaybe 65 at the most before I slowed down. The civic in front of me was going 65-maybe 70. He pulls me over way far away and says i was going 75 mph and even accused me of racing the civic. I was like "No I was going 60. how can you be racing someone at 60 mph? and if I was racing that civic i wouldnt be behind him" he then says that the "speedo on cars older than 10 years are off and cost $500 to fix. and I doubt you paid $500 to calibrate it". i said "WTF this is bullshit let me see the laser". he says that it's in the car and i can't come out of my car to see it. so i ask him to bring it to me to show it then i'll stop talking. he then says he'll write me up for recon and everything else instead. I was going to go to court and mention the things the cop said to me cuz I thought it was so messed up, but I ended up just paying the ticket. What do you think would have happened if I did go and tell the judge what the cop said?

sorry for the long rant but this just brought back old memories of corruption and discrimination

I would fight the ticket. 50/50 chance he would not show up for court. He don't have to show you the laser. If you step out of the vehicle, he will be responsible for you safty. Speeding is speeding. Going above speed limit is speeding. 5-15 over limit is speeding. 15 over is reckless driving. Racing or not, other lifes are around you!!

Brian, I'll try popping the balloon next time. It sounds fun.

in a bimmer 55-60 feels like 35-40
never the less you can be going 25-30 and still have a severe accident
my sister and her bf were T boned from a girl who just got her liscense. she was pulling out of a parking lot and they were going 30mph. she still has sparatic neck pains and they missed their prom that night
iresponsible, inconsiderate, under qualified, unaware drivers kill people.
speeding in traffic, drinking and driving, exceeding the limits of your car on our shitty roads. people also can de dangerous by not keeping up with the posted speed limits. cops are no angles either. i've been cruising along and have had cops come flying by me going at least 75-80 mph. how is that not dangerous?

Good luck brother Cal.

I have some experience with speeding tickets.
That was back in the late 90's though.
I had a long track record. I have grown out of racing and/or speeding since.

Peace,

Hell, I was clean for TWENTY-EIGHT years!! The cop says, "you are due".

The judge threw the book at me.

well got out of the expired safety check no problem...

speeding ticket from the cop by "pacing" me was not thrown out. The cop had put the distance he followed at, and for how long, so the judge wouldnt throw it out. Going to trial on Jan 9th. He has to prove without a doubt that I was speeding at exactly 70mph, which he stated on the ticket.

by "pacing" me, he does not have "exact" data, and it should get thrown out.

I agree 100%

If you guys don't want to get a speeding ticket, get a 318is and you won't be able to speed.
Or just drive the posted speed limit. With the amount of traffic, there really isn't much sense in speeding...unless you are on Kalanianaole Hwy going through the twisties and you are the only one on the road! :alright

Have fun, drive safe!

Cal - If you were speeding, I hate to say it, but you deserve the ticket and your race (ethic back ground not car race) should have nothing to do with it! I guess the key word here is "should".

Do we need a track or what!!

OMG... I need it!!! I need it sooooooo badly!
After this round of mods, it's pretty much track-ready... just need a helmet, new slicks, and some more lessons.
This car just keeps screaming at me to BE driven.
My car is like a junkie that needs to get his fix and I'm the dealer that can't provide at the moment. :(

k so today i went from Mililani to Waikiki, and there are a lot more cops around

passed like 2 in Mililani, 1 in Waipio, saw a few with pulled over cars on the freeway, and more on the way back.

most of the cops were on the side of the road waiting, not just driving around, so go slooooooower and be on the lookout.
they did have their blue lights on though.

*and i could have sworn cops dont have a quota for tickets... that was just a myth.. not 100% sure though

I did...but it had more squeaks and rattles in it that you could imagine (it only had 3200 miles on it). This morning I traded it in for a Corvette.

Vette from Hertz too?? :stickoutt

Or from the Mahalo station in Waikiki?

I think the last stop on the Ford assembly line is "Rattle Addition". Second to last station is "Squeak Tuning".

The vette is from Hertz too, they let me trade in the Shelby for the Vette straight up.

The only problem is that I am now thinking about trading my M3 for a Vette.

True... but I'd still like that stiffer steering ratio. Not to mention, wouldn't hurt to have a backup set of ZCP wheels on hand rather than my OEM 18" M67 that won't clear my brakes. Nonetheless... you're car is hot. :D
