View Full Version : rear subframe ? e36S50 11-28-2006, 05:29 AM will the rear subframe from any other e36 bolt up in place of the e30 style part in the Ti, or is modifacation required? windnsea00 11-28-2006, 05:31 AM Not going to happen, the TI uses the E30 rear subframe. e36S50 11-28-2006, 05:40 AM so the rear of the car is that different? i know they use the e30 part, will my e36 part bolt in. windnsea00 11-28-2006, 05:44 AM so the rear of the car is that different? i know they use the e30 part, will my e36 part bolt in. What part are you speaking of? e36S50 11-28-2006, 05:53 AM the rear subframe; trailing arms, brakes, differential the entire subframe. swap heard of anyone that has done it or attempted doing it? windnsea00 11-28-2006, 05:56 AM I bet someone in this world has done it but it's far from feasible and not even worth it. If you are planning on building a track car or engine swap, you can put a big case LSD from E28/E30's in the rear, pick up some MZ3 rear trailing arms so you can run the larger brakes and there you have it. e36S50 11-28-2006, 06:04 AM yea i have a S50us cant remember witch trany (its out of a 1997 M3) as well as the Motorsport rear subframe from my totald frankenbimmer and im trying 2 decide witch e36 chassis i want coupe or if this is possible ti windnsea00 11-28-2006, 06:06 AM You will need a `95 TI for the `95 S50 engine (both OBDI) while you can choose from the `92-`95 E36 sedan/coupes for the swap. Obviously the TI would be the quickest, most fun and more unique. Also it's nice to not have to worry about subframe tearing as I have yet to hear about it in TI's. Panzer_M 11-29-2006, 10:55 AM http://i11.ebayimg.com/02/i/07/c2/64/3d_1.JPG invest in a set of Ground Control Street RSMs, $83.00 from Team No Money's Ebay Store.(Used to run a silver/black Ti) Kos-motate139 11-29-2006, 07:23 PM Either M Coupe or M Roadster subframes will bolt in if you need mega-strength. Other Z3's will bolt in as well, but ti subframes have been known to withstand a lot more punishment than other e36s and still be fine. Panzer_M 11-29-2006, 08:56 PM the rear subframe; trailing arms, brakes, differential the entire subframe. swap heard of anyone that has done it or attempted doing it? it's 7 bolts for a m42/44 it's pointless other than for sheits and giggles for a small six, 325 or 323 swap(or 320) i would spend the money else where, one small bonus of the z3(non-m) rear is slightly better brakes..but unless your pushing tin, put the money else where ie front brakes, with e36 325/328 brakes or e46 brakes. scabzzzz 11-30-2006, 01:11 PM yeah even working at treehouse, freakin home of the e30 m50 swap, even the owner Jon says thats pretty much a myth even under larger horsepower setups. wouldnt worry about it. you could replace those bushings. but thats for peace of mind really. Mad Machine 12-06-2006, 09:22 PM well, good to know about the Z3 rear having better brakes. My subframe is bent (both rear wheels toe in, the driver's side worse than the passenger) so I will look for that. MParallel 12-21-2006, 09:09 AM so the rear of the car is that different? i know they use the e30 part, will my e36 part bolt in. Just look at the dash, which is almost a 1-on-1 copy of the e30 dash. Better yet (worse) BMW used e30 leftovers for it. |
