View Full Version : Earth Quake & Tsunami
thrlls 11-27-2006, 02:25 AM I just received 2 calls saying that there will be a major earth quake and tsunami tonight around 12:00 AM. I seen the trailer on KHON saying it was a hoax, but then my boss' brother was at Daiea aka Don whatever oti...and there was a person there that works for the CD and he said it was not a hoax.
Question: If the guy at Daiea worked for the CD and there was such an eq and tsunami, wouldn't he be at work?
Hmmm...decisions decisions do I head for the hills or go to sleep.

wiggafly808 11-27-2006, 03:01 AM k5 news at 9 just said its a rumor
no need to worry then
TheJakeR 11-27-2006, 03:20 AM i don't know abt u guys, but I would be a little worried. Harsh rain is expected here in socal tomorrow or a couple days, so anything that will reach here in full force may be worrysome. Still got abt 2 hrs to go get that pickled mango thrlls!

Seems like we're geting some rain now.
I did drainage maintenance yesterday, and told my neighbor I hope it rains so I can see if my work paid off. I guess I got the rain I joked about.
The drain works, 85%. Phase 2 waterworks is for next weekend....
O'ahu flood advisory issued until 10:45 p.m.
Advertiser Staff
The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for O'ahu until 10:45 p.m.
At 7:42 p.m., the radar showed thunderstorms with very heavy rain over the Ko'olau mountain range from near Waikane to Manoa. (What about us in Palolo? It is pouring here.)
Rainfall is estimated at 2 inches per hour in some areas.
Iwantoneofthose 11-27-2006, 03:48 AM I heard some thunder an hour or so ago, thought it was gonna pour. It rained a tad here, but nothing since...
thrlls 11-27-2006, 04:01 AM As I took the RAV for a spin along the coast, I seen lightening towards Aiea side. Then I heard there is a flash flood warning for O'ahu on the windward side!
Should be a fun night with my PM!

don't know if you'd feel much on the open ocean, where the tsunami is just energy traveling through the water...it doesn't become a wave until it has a beach/landmass to pile up on...:D
i heard the earthquake/tsunami rumor was started by a big box store which was overstocked with toilet paper...;)
gmhl10 11-27-2006, 06:00 PM Well... after all the rain yesterday... I know what you CAN expect!
More Potholes! :(
And after that...
More Cheapo Lumpy 5 minute Patch Jobs! :(

...or a gas station in Waianae with lots of old gas to sell.
I was on a boat in a marina during an earthquake. The dock pilings started moving back and forth, but we didn't feel anything other than a tug on one of the mooring lines. We sat around over more beers discussing why we wouldn't feel it, and came to the conclusion that the water between us and the sea floor would isolate any side to side motion. If the land under us moved up and down to where we could feel it, it likely wouldn't matter at that point anyway. So we opened more beers and agreed to that logic. :)

:lol I guess after enough beers nothing would really matter huh?
Gene - I must agree with you, once the energy moves into shallower waters then it will become the Ultimate Pipeline! :kousto
