If BMW is smart, then a CF roof would be just another way to bring down the curb weight relative to to 335i...much like the M6 vs. M5! :redspot

Are you serious? HaHa, the roof doesn't save that much:lol Prob. a fifth of someone going from a sunroof to non...

Edit - Here is a comparison to look at - Thanks to Brad at Evosport for putting it up!!!

I don't doubt that it can make a difference at the EXTREMES with handling but lets be honest, it is PURELY a marketing tool from BMW's view. Just like angle eyes :)

I agree, but CF roof is perceived as an very motorsports/hardcore autoenthusiast performance enhancing feature and the angel eyes are just purely cosmetic.

Well, the CF roof is certainly a marketing ploy, but also hints that other parts of the car are CF or of another similarly exotic weight-saving material, like the bumper supports, fenders, engine block, suspension arms, wheels, exhaust, etc. You may only save a few pounds per exotic part, but if you employ exotics on 10+ parts, the savings adds-up (as does the MSRP!).

Bottom line is that BMW's are now heavy-weight vehicles - that still manage to handle like lighter cars. We can forget about actual lightness in these vehicles. It is now all about BMW creating the PERCEPTION of lightness.

there is no doubt I am going to love it. But part of me is dissapointed by how subtle the styling is on the new generation of M cars. the people who buy M cars are enthusiasts or they just have the money to spend, and in either case they want to be separated by more than just a couple of tail pipes and a badge. I wish the wheel wells were more flared, and it just lacks the "aggressive" look in my opinion, and outside of just a few small differences, it looks just like the 335i coupe to me.....perhaps it looks different in person, I certainly hope so.

Audi has gained momentum by doing just that, they add very aggressive styling to their performance vehicles to separate them from the grocery getters within the same model. Ex. RS4.....that car looks absolutely nothing like it's fellow bloodline, and it shouldn't. The new M3 is going to clean that car's clock, but it needs to also LOOK the part.......looks sell.

If everyone cared only about performance and not looks, there would be alot more people driving STI's and Evo's...........am I alone on this??

Niiiice car! However more aggressive bodywork wouldn't hurt.

But I'm still a bit baffled why car manufacturers would bring out cars covered with black tape (and a roofbox). Even people who have no interest in cars would notice something like that, no?

CF roof = lower center of gravity
