View Full Version : help me finish my ti up yo!
scabzzzz 11-24-2006, 04:44 PM so im getting kinda tired ofmy contours. at first, i wanted to pick up another set of contours and just run the rears all the way around. i love basket weave style rims and stuff with a nice fat dish. i see a lot of rims i like but i dont want to spend 2 grand on a set of rims. just recently purchased some volks for the girlfriend so im broke i guess. what do you guys recommend??
i like smaller type rims and i would like lightweight. love bbs but too pricey. dont mind buying used what-so-ever. would like to keep it under a thousand if possible.
my current setup (exterior):
97 m3 front bumper cover with chinspoiler.
H&R coilovers in front. bilstein + groundcontrol coilover in rear (pretty slammed, wont go any lower)
let me know what you guys think!!

Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 - 17x8, E36/46
These wheels have been speced by Bimmerworld to meet our demanding requirements for a lightweight race wheel. This means no spacers or hubcentric rings required for most applications (use of spacers is sometimes prefered for some track requirements). We have proven that these wheels will take a beating - multiple track weekends on this design have resulted in zero bent wheels, even while hitting curbs on the track very hard. At about 17 pounds, this is the only wheel we have found that combines lightweight design and strength at this price.

platanos 11-25-2006, 02:36 PM buy my rims...
ixe30 11-26-2006, 08:46 AM I just got my TI and though I love it I'm quickly finding out that this the bmw choice for ricers. :( No wunder the rest of the bmw world shun us.
1996 328ti 11-26-2006, 09:20 AM I just got my TI and though I love it I'm quickly finding out that this the bmw choice for ricers. :( No wunder the rest of the bmw world shun us.It's become very affordable. I see it in the ti's bigger cousins too now. Why make your Honduh look like a BMW when you can buy a 318i, take off the badge, cut the springs and add 4 fog lights? Oh, and stick a big coffee can on the exhaust.
torjthm 11-26-2006, 10:04 PM ya i agree but then again there are those who can smoke any m3 with their ti ... i just do it in the turns ... not so much of a straight away car yet ....but make fun of me if you want i plan to run one of the first bimmers in the formula d drift series ... and im prety close to it
Panzer_M 11-26-2006, 10:14 PM The e30 M3 isn't a drag-racer. the 325is will take it, but on the right roads/track you can't have a better friend.
Same kinda goes with the Ti. I would love a 323ti, hell I'm on the verge of starting to gather the parts for a M50 swap on the Club Sport, cause I'm wanting a DOHC Six, to start working on. Just I can't find a chassis I love as much as Ti overall. The Z3M are nice, but I just love the little notch of the Hatch and the bold front of the e36 BMW.
ixe30 11-27-2006, 07:02 AM I'm not talking about people who mod there engine to get more power. thats fine...I'm talking about the black hoods...Rice rims..stickers and the rest of that crap.
Panzer_M 11-27-2006, 08:41 AM I am just saying the Ti is cliche car. Like the e28 guys, the 2002 guys...we kinda just do our own thing and let the world do theirs.

ok asshole. first off, i bought my car with ZERO interior, and ZIP in the engine bay. NOTHING. i took a rolling chassis and built it back. its now got a low mileage m52 and rollin strong. pullin high 13's and an e36 4door m3 dash DOG. bmw parts are expensive BRO and ive already got 10k dollars in the car. i mean, what you got done to your car? clear corner upgrades? sweeeet. the list of upgrades on my car, which might i add, are all reputable aftermarket brands and OR bmw oem parts, is guaranteed more than you realize so need not throw out stupid comments like that.

I don't care what's under the hood. Thats great that you put oem bimmer parts in it and it sounds like you made a hell of car perforance wise. But the black hood LOOKS rice. It LOOKS like something a kid driveing a civic would do. Thats my opinion. If you can't handle someone giving a negative comment about your car then don't put pics of it on an open forum. My car is stock and thats the way I like it...I wouldn't put clear corners on my car because once again I want to maintain the class of bmw..not make it look like something the little kids are doing to there rice rockets down town.
scabzzzz 11-30-2006, 02:17 PM maybe you've never purchased a new hood before. they come black. its painted now, but its ok. rice rockets for the win i guess. sounds like you're making excuses for your car being slow to me. its cool though. i understand.
ixe30 11-30-2006, 05:00 PM Well okay then..if it was just a new hood I didn't realize that. I'm not makeing any excuses for my cars. :rolleyes I think if you look at my posts I never made mention of the speed of my cars. If I wanted it to be fast I would mod it. Money isn't a problem. I like my ti for what it is...a little 4 banger thats still fun to drive in the twisties to get me back and fourth to work. I have no will to do anything to make it something it's not. My 325is is definitly the faster car and it's more then fast enough for me. I thought your hood was black because you wanted it that way..not because you were waiting to get it painted. On the plus side I do dig your rims. They upgrade the look of your car without makeing it look ghetto..That in my opinion is what a good bmw mod does!

speaking of clear corners, i have an idea to throw on some yellow laminX on my corners. i would actually rather have my orange ones back instead of the clear... anyone ever heard of yellow corners on e36's? never seen it around...

I'd expect it would be easier to find someone who wants clear corners and just swap with them. Heck, you could probably even get the stock corners plus some cash in exchange for your clears.

Yeah maybe im stupid i just dont really like clear corners on my car. never have really on any car. i like orange. i'd rather let my suspension and my motor do the talking. but anyways, yeah. im pretty much fiending for some chrome twankies son... haha. good call.:rolleyes
roadrash 11-30-2006, 07:24 PM Which style BBS? I think I'd like some 17" BBS RA's, but haven't seen any. I assume there are more than one style of M Roadster wheels... which one do you have access to?
JMJ
roadrash 11-30-2006, 07:28 PM Yeah maybe im stupid i just dont really like clear corners
Me either... I'm too lazy to type out the reason why though. I think smoked corners look a little better than clear in many cases.
im pretty much fiending for some chrome twankies son... haha. good call.:rolleyes
Ah HA! I knew it!!! LOL Hey, just to clarify, the chrome wheels weren't MY choice... they were on the car when I got it and are pretty much the last bit of bling that I need to get rid of.
JMJ
tonyyy 11-30-2006, 09:11 PM I think the M Roadster wheels are ~9" wide in the rear, and have pretty bad fitment for E36's the offset isnt right for our cars IIRC.

yeah love the ra's... my dream wheel is of course the LM.. way to expensive for me though. any of the bbs's look good to me and look good on just about any year bmw that i've seen. the RG (i think) looks nice as well. its just some of them dont have a nice lip. i think my favorite in this post so far would be the asa's one guy mentioned. good price. nice weight.
I think the M Roadster wheels are ~9" wide in the rear, and have pretty bad fitment for E36's the offset isnt right for our cars IIRC.
dude my fenders are rolled so much its stupid. my friend that owned the car before me had 9's in the rear soo... think i should be ok. the roadster wheels would be coming from a 99 M Roadster. the 4 spoke pattern. huge lip in the rear. yum. not sure how it looks on the car though. never seen it.
kickass95318ti 11-30-2006, 11:35 PM ASA AR2 those would look good!! how much would the CLS's wheels be? would it mess up wheel well? the whole car is stock so..... thanks!

I just swapped back to the stock headlights, corners and side marker and couldn't be happier. The stock look is SOOOOOO classy. Especially when you have the power to defend it. :)

I have the biggest Ecock! I win FTMFFTB!
As to the black hood, it's black cause it's black unless you paint it...really WHO the fuck cares what color IT is, it's got a purpose weight reduction, in a car with a Sixer in the front that can mean something.
as to someone who has put their time/effort/money/and love into a car, any car it something they should be proud of,and I can't knock that.
tonyyy 12-01-2006, 12:30 AM Here is a pic I found of some M Roady wheels on a sedan. They don't really look good IMO.
Probably wouldnt look too good on a ti either.

drkblu318ti 12-04-2006, 11:33 PM I think that M roady rims looks awsome on the ti. On my old one i had them minus the rear 9" wides. and it looked really good IMO. But they look realy bad on that sedan. But i think that the "smallness" of the ti makes it look good.
scabzzzz 12-07-2006, 04:44 PM yeah you're probably right man. i cant help but think that 540 rims would look sweet on a ti as well... the more im at the shop and see all these 7 series and 5 series wheels, its like dayem... i need to try these out.

hmm... blasphemy. interesting idea though.
ive already got an m3 front end conversion with the 97 grills. pretty content with that. i dont plan on having this car forever... my next purchase would probably be an e46 so i'll knock that one out by just having an e46.

You need some e39 540 rims Dave :)
Edit: With black centers
scabzzzz 02-22-2007, 01:34 PM Rob buddy, Im hanging from your nutsack. And yes I know, would actually rather just have the 540 actually. Ive seen a bunch lately with the good rims, in fact there was a clean black one at the shop for an oil change yesterday, I skeeted 3 times.
Nothing wrong with an e39. Even the 540 makes your dick touch your nutsack under acceleration. You know all the problems to watch out for (valley pan, valve covers, etc).

But, fock, what should I do.
Should I do stock look? or carbon fiber hood???? What do you guys think? She once had a carbon fiber hood on it, but one of the hood latches broke on the interstate and flew up to break my car and the hood. So im kinda wanting to steer away, but after buying a hood and painting it, I could own throw a cf hood on it. Hellrot + carbon fiber?
Whats up guys talk to me. Think about those options plus a nice set of Rondell Style 58's..... :boobies

scabzzzz 03-08-2007, 03:24 PM Man im just not feelin that. I've had a carbon fiber hood on before i guess the stock look is going to be choice. Probably bring the value up on the car.
thanks for the pic though.
kickass95318ti 03-09-2007, 06:07 PM scabzzz if you do go cf get some hood latches! my friend has a miata and he was on the high way and his hood flow up and he got hood latches and it now helps when he does like 90+mph
tonyyy 03-09-2007, 11:00 PM Why not get a CF hood, and paint it. Voila, best of both worlds. :)
And, those wheels look stunning, I dig them alot.

Yeah thats the boat im in. The last CF hood had a hood latch that broke and the hood goes flying it destroying the windshield and laying 3 dents in the top. Haha.

Painting carbon fiber never works out in the end. Too much flex on the hood and the paint ends up chipping and cracking. Yes those wheels are :boobies. You can find them for a really awesome price too!
scabzzzz 06-07-2007, 04:38 PM Ok boys and chicks... bumping this thread back from the dead..
After a year of blowing money, gf giving me rides back and forth and being pissed off about my car, its finally coming together so I decided break out the camera. Still has some things that need attention, but I got this car with no motor, no interior, no plastics anywhere, a rolling chassis.
Im stoked... Not looking for recognition, just another thread with some pictures. More professional looking pictures to come when I hook up with SpasticDwarf to do some better shots with my car and my stepdads mint e34 M5. To be continued...

Check out the climate controls. This is a '96 model chassis ;)
cooljess76 06-08-2007, 02:02 AM alright scabzzzz, where'd ya get that spoiler? I've been lookin for one, but all I could find are replicas. Is that one a rep? I don't care either way, I'm just wondering if the reps have a spot to mount the badge. Nice pics BTW, cars lookin good. Decided to keep the contours?
Edit, nice dash and the engine bay looks really clean & non cluttered.
scabzzzz 06-08-2007, 10:12 AM Thanks Jess. No need for any of the bullshit in the engine bay like washer fluid and crap. No A/C, no antenna, no windsheild wipers. You know how I roll... but anyways..
The spoilers is Mtech, genuine style. Came on the car when I bought it but my car is a base model as far as I can tell. The car used to have Mtech 325 Hurricane vaders too.. that was a huge mistake getting rid of those.
I see that Platanos? is selling that roof spoiler. I would rather have that. You should pick it up while its still around!

Speaking of that spoiler... here's a reminder: As soon as I get a decent job (or any job for that matter) and have some spare cash, I'm buying that spoiler from you. You don't have any say in the matter, it's sold. Well, I guess I could let you choose whether I buy it from you, or I steal it from you. LOL
And because I know you're going to ask, no, I will not trade my seats for it. But, I could be persuaded to trade my wheels for it. :D
scabzzzz 06-09-2007, 09:34 AM Haha. Since you're so persistent about the situation, I'll sell it to you. I really wish you could get it from me quick, since theres a certain roof spoiler up for grabs on Ti.org. Hmmmm....
Hey Joey, whats up with all these stupid marathons downtown? I swear they only run around my building and it takes me 25 minutes to get to work 7 minutes down the street.
roadrash 06-09-2007, 10:21 AM Once my "job / financial" situation changes for the better, we'll deal on the spoiler. Just remember, I've got dibs!
Yeah, I generally try to sleep in to avoid the madness on that morning. Heck, if you only live 7 minutes from work, you should be walking or riding a bike anyway! :-)
scabzzzz 06-09-2007, 07:44 PM I work on Murfreesboro. So its like 7 in my car with ME driving it. Otherwise probably a 6 hour walk.
