Sounds better for sure but I think my next thing will be to replace the section 1&2 pipes. Which would get rid of the rasp from what I understand. I want it to growl but nothing obnoxious, any recommendations on a new exhaust? thanks You should consider a full Borla cat-back system which includes a Borla midpipe and muffler. It's deep, throaty, completely eliminates the rasp, doesn't drone and won't piss off neighbors and set off car alarms. LOL Its the ONLY M3 midpipe that has an X-pipe all the way to the front of the midpipe section. Being as close to the engine as possible increases exhaust scavenging efficiency, and they did it without increasing the size of the pipes. This means no loss of low-end HP & torque, but the increased scavenging at higher RPMs (due to hotter exhaust flow being closer to the heat source) actually creates power. AND it does it at a moderate price. It is made 100% of T-304 stainless so it's lighter and won't rust. f you haven't done any other research and wonder how I know this...I'm the guy that talked to Alex Borla and told him we were losing sales of Borla mufflers because they didn't make a midpipe, so they borrowed my personal car for R&D and I got a real education into exhaust systems while they were developing the product. The Borla midpipe was released in August and we've sold over 70 units with VERY positive results. If you want a system that is slightly louder than stock at cruising speeds, but really comes alive at higher RPMs then consider the Borla. You can find the midpipe here (http://www.nexternal.com/bimmer/Product132) and there are links to the 2 mufflers available at the bottom of that page. The round tip muffler is by far the more popular, but we've sold quite a few of the rectangular tip mufflers in the past couple of months and the systems with that muffler is $100 less. We have everything in stock in our warehouse and can usually ship the same day. Check out my car below with the rectangular tip Borla and a Vorsteiner CSL diffuser. BimmerPerfStore 11-24-2006, 07:30 PM ugly tips. No problem. The traditional quad round tips are by far more popular, but we've sold about 8 of the rectangular tip muffler in the past 2 months after people who want their car to be different (like I do) have seen how cool and unique the rectangular tips make your M look. In our town (about 40 miles north of L.A.) the only car dealership is Steve Thomas BMW. It's not unusual to see 2 or 3 other E46 M3's while driving around. So, the rectangular tip muffler has 2 advantages...1. it's different and there's no question you have an aftermarket performance exhaust when you see it, and 2. it's cheaper. Bottom line is Borla has a muffler that meets everyone's personal taste for the M3. I like the Tubi sound as well - very exotic - Ferrari esque sound. If you need any help with pricing/questions/etc. on any exhaust brand let us know we'll be happy to help you(we carry just about all of them). mert1 11-24-2006, 10:21 PM I've had borla on 2 other cars and was never happy with it. ThatOneGuy 11-25-2006, 01:18 AM I'm thinking about Dinan as part of their S kit. HiRide 11-25-2006, 06:14 PM www.klangford.com (http://www.klangford.com) take a look and a listen at pretty much every exhaust option for this car... edit: hmmm, seems someone already pointed that out...oh well +1 for klangford. Thats M Life 11-25-2006, 07:22 PM i have to say the borla set up is pretty appealing...though id rather have the borla mid pipe with a ti exhaust |
