View Full Version : whats up, new owner
Jakedell2 11-23-2006, 02:54 AM Hello, I just bought a 1992 BMW 525i automatic. 160k on the engine, interior kinda falling apart, but the engine and the ext. are in amazing shape.
So what are the first things i should read on this forum or elsewhere about getting the most out of this beautiful car.
Thanks,
Jake
Start at www.bmwe34.net. Lots of great info there.

+1 on e34net. Also read this (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=566757&highlight=manual+swap).
What's wrong with your interior? General wear, or stuff that can be patched back together?

Grim Reaper 11-23-2006, 12:06 PM Welcome to a great group of E34 enthusiasts!
Some great posts here on interior swaps, interior details (E34 530) and others. Do some searches on those and you will have some real good info on some interior update options.
Post up some pics and let the mods begin!

Well it feels like i could rip the door panels off with a bit of effort, the dash has cracked and peeled a bit. the leather is understandably worn. Some electrical stuff like my SRS button flashes sometimes, or stays lit. The climate control system/clock is out.
The interior is why i got a good price on it, so i knew it would need a bit of love.
i'll try to get some pics up soon.
e34werkz 11-23-2006, 01:51 PM Welcome aboard. You will find a lot of guidance on the board. Good luck with your e34.
moroza 11-23-2006, 02:01 PM Some of that probably requires replacement. As for the door panels, they're held in by plastic grommet thingies (at least, the ones that I've seen thus far - there might be a couple of bolts) that seem to lose their touch after at least a decade. They're probably easy to replace.

The first thing any e34 owner should do, regardless of the apparent condition of the car, is make sure the cooling system is in operating order. Trust me. You'll be glad you did.
