Hey everyone, how's it going. Since I sold my M3 I miss having a BMW and regret selling it. I have recently been looking at the X5s and getting real close to purchasing one. My only concern was is it worth the extra thousand or so to get the 4.6 instead of a 4.4?
I know it does have more Horespower and Torque, but can't I make those numbers with a few mods on a 4.4 and save a lot of money? Are there any great extras to get the 4.6 over the 4.4?
Please I hope to hear back from you all. Thank you and have a great Thanksgiving Day and Weekend. :)
Only $1k difference between the two? What is the year and mileage of the 4.6 vs the 4.4? The 4.6 has NAV, 20" wheels, more power, etc. $1k is nothing. If the 4.6 checks out to be ok, get it.

Given similar condition and mileage, $1K is nothing. Mods alone would cost a lot more than $1k. Go for the 4.6.

BJO - I'm not trying to say this in a rude way or anything, but what are you talking about...only a $1k difference. I wish it was only that much cause I wouldn't be asking you guys that question my mind would have already been made.
jr1966 - Your right $1k is nothing, but the 4.4 and 4.6 don't have a $1k difference it is much more than that.
A 2003 X5 4.6 w/ 50k miles costs on an average of $38,000
A 2003 X5 4.4 w/ 50k miles costs on an average of $29,900
(*Calculations were done by taking the sum of Trade-In and Private Party Value from KBB and dividing by 2)
That's a difference in price of atleast $8100
So how did you come up with only a $1k difference...now with knowing the facts about that what do you think....get the 4.4 or 4.6?

He probably got it from your post. You wrote - "So is it really worth the extra thousand?"

Not trying to flame here, but damn, talk about not proofreading what you post and making yourself look like an assh*le.
Back to the subject. I too am looking for an mid year X5 and I am solely looking for the 4.6is b/c a few things:
1. Better resale later on
2. Rarity
3. Its faster
4. 20 inch rims
5. Available in Estoril
6. rides on slightly lowered more sporty suspension
7. Its Faster ;)
Just the color alone is worth the extra few thousands...
