I needed to change the timing belt on my 1989 525i and in the process I changed out the water pump. From what I can tell I recieved the correct part number and looked like the old pump. BUT I have a problem. I was in the process of putting the pulleys on last night and after tighting down the water pump pully and trying to give it a turn, it really didn't want to turn, it was hitting the toothed wheel on the crank that generates a pulse for the crank position sensor.
Has anyone run into this problem before? I need to take some pictures to post, but wanted to get you all thinking of things for me to look at?
Visually the two water pumps looked the same, I didn't measure down to the .00001 mm of how close they were so the old one is already in the dumpster, so I can't get it to compare any more :\
