Hi Everyone ~

I just looked at two god-awful E36's today at a lot in Route 16 in Revere...

Are there any good used car dealers in the areas that perhaps specialize in older BMW's that have a good selection and can be trusted (as much as a dealer can be, that is.)

I am looking for an auto 95-97 E36 for my wife, for around $6k. I know best to buy from a private seller with a history, but those seem pretty hard to come by.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,

Bluesman

There's a tiny place up in Rowley MA (Mobil station on Rt 1 by the Agawam Diner), which specializes in BMWs and Audis. They have had E36s and E46s there, a few M3s as well as an M5. I don't know the name of the actual dealer though.

There is a place in Portsmouth, New Hampshire that has E36 M3's gallore, I forget the name of the place though.

There is Foreign Motors West, in Natick MA that has a lot of E36's as well.

I would really try to buy from an enthusiast, you will pay less and know more about the car and know it was cared for by someone that knew it...

+1 Try the BMW CCA Classifieds or Roadfly, lots of good stuff on there.

Autobahn East specializes in nicer cars with their associated showroom. http://www.autobahneast.net/autobahn_east_bmwad.htm I saw two very nice M Roadsters there while my car was being serviced.

Also, you might try contacting a good BMW specialist show, such as Schneller in Newbury http://www.machschnell.com/ to see if they can locate you a car for the price you want to pay. If you deal with a good show, you are very unlikely to end up with a car that needs a lot of work right away.

I bought mine about a month ago at High Line Motor Group in Lowell. http://www.highlinemotorgroup.com. They have a TON of e36s, all one previous owner, no salvage, no junk. The two bros. who own the place are enthusiasts. They are unbelievably helpful from a customer service standpoint, almost to the point of "what's wrong with these guys?" kinda thing. I looked at a bunch of other cars at independent dealers (no BMW dealers because of my credit) and Highline had by far the nicest, cleanest cars that I saw.

I think you have to get lucky to find a good e36.
I do websites for car dealers around the area and got lucky finding mine at CarNation in Haverhill.
You can check thier inventory online (as my company keeps it updated,) but if you see a Silver 98 328i with 84k on there don't bother, it's sold to me.
(And yes, i see the irony of talking about how we keep it updated but it's not, car dealers like to keep sold cars on there to generate interest.)

We used Alpha Motorcars in Boxborrogh (sp?) MA. Bought the M3 off them and were very happy with the transaction.

I looked at an 04 330Ci there that they swore was a ZHP because just cause it was a 6-speed. It wasn't a ZHP, but it was sure priced like one. When I tried to explain it, he just didn't want to hear it. I'd question them as enthusiasts myself :)
