I am looking to get 4.8is and wanted to know people's thoughts on the best year to get and some options that are nice to have. Also any thoughts on the pricing..looking to get used one of course.

Any known problems too?

Nice to see you around here, calicoupe. I'm at the Z3 forums most of the time myself.

When I had my 3.0 X5, I was drooling over the 4.8is when it came out. The only thing I can tell you about my 3.0 is that it was trouble-free in the 5 years I've had it. One of the best vehicles I've owned and I just had to give it up for a 7-seater LR3 due to a growing family. The only problem I had, taken care of by the dealer under warranty, and which is quite common on German cars, are the window regulators.

There was a time the car was parked. When I got back to the X5, I thought someone had smashed my window. Found out a window regulator failed the the whole window just rolled down by itself. Yes, it fails at the time you least expect it.
