Anybody have a good experience getting their windshield replaced? I had one of the mobile companies replace one of mine once and they totally botched it so I'm a little skittish about just picking one out of the phonebook.

It's never a good idea to do the mobile glass replacement unless you have no means of driving it to the shop. Not enough time to cure and not the right temperature outside. The tech will have to rush the job. Make an appointment with JN Philips in Newton location for you to bring it in. That way they have all tools and time to do a good job. They have many other locations too.

If your insurance is paying, request a OEM BMW windshield

I ended up going to JN Philips in Cambridge. Not pleased with the results, the windshield is off-center by about 1/8". I know that doesn't sound like much but it means there's a big gap in the seal on one side and the seal is all jammed together on the other side. It looks like crap. I'll be heading back in to get them to re-install it tomorrow. I'll update this thread with results as I go along.

I actually asked my mechanic for a recommendation on this and he couldn't give me one. He said nobody was any good. I'm starting to believe him.

Yeah, I agree you are never going to find a great place. The BMW dealers areound here actually use these mobile guys and than put there commision on top of it. On my last e36 I had one of the mobile companys come and replace the front windshield. The first one was all wavy (very annoying to drive). I called them up and they came and put another one in with no hassle what so ever. After that is was mint. Just my $.02

I've used these guys more than once, and been very happy with the results. This is who my local BMW dealer (Gallery in Norwood) uses.
