I just bought a used '06 X3 last month, with 5K miles.
My brakes squeak, but not all the time. I think it happens mainly
when I depress "lightly".
I would take it to the dealer, but I am afraid if they "test" it they won't be able to find the problem. I would like to go to the dealer with an idea of what they need to fix.
I searched the X3 threads, but really didnt find anyone with a similiar problem.
Any suggestions?

Is your vehicle not covered by the maintenance plan? Take it in and have them check it out. They may just need to be cleaned.

It is covered by the maintenace plan. But the brakes do not squeak at every stop. I am "afraid" to take it to the dealer because I have a feeling they will say "we couldn't get the brakes to squeak", or "we couldn't find a problem with the brakes". I was hoping to pin point the problem.

Sounds to me like you have some brake dust or something like that.

All brakes can squeal, espeacially when lighty pressed when first driven after sitting or after using the brakes hard and lightly pressing them (aka you did 105 to Mcdonald's just to try the new snack wrap).
