Come and join SCR SCCA at Prince of Orange Mall in Orangeburg, SC for a Charity Auto-X.

SCR-SCCA Auto-X Dec 2nd (http://www.scr-scca.com/modules/autox/autox_flyer.php?EventID=156&EventDate=20061202)

"This is a non-points event, the purpose of which is to organize a charity food drive for the Orangeburg unit of the Salvation Army. The entry fee is $20.00 for SCCA members, and $30.00 for non members, but you can receive $1.00 off your entry fee for every two canned goods or non-perishable food items you bring, up to $5.00 off.

And by all means, please bring even more food than that if you can! We want to collect a donation that will really make a dent in the Salvation Army's pantry this winter!

Fun runs for this event will cost two cans each instead of $1.00 each. :-D" -Nick Hallman - Auto X Director

It'll be fine for the 10th, there was at least one 5 series wagon last time. It's not that much faster than a typical autocross.

By the way, check your PM's over at the SCR board and send me your email so I can email you the registration form for the event.

Well, I hope so. I'll be happy if I can beat a few of them. Even as light as my car is, only 120 - 130 hp and 185 width all seasons is a lot to overcome.

Check your sc.rr email address, I sent you a copy of the entry forms for the 10th.

(If you think it seems that I'm posting more than I normally would, in order to be able to quote people's posts without cutting out smilies and links, you'd be right. Anybody know the post count where all the restrictions go away?)

Where's the breakfast spot guys? Poor car is creaking and popping but I'll be there. It's begging for new bushings all over. The colder it gets the more noises it makes.

Well, sorry guys. I was a poor representation today. The design of teh track exploited my cars greatest weakness and boy did it show. Stuart designed teh course and it was 2 long slaloms. Start slightly uphill to the right and turn left into the first slalom. This slalom went all the way to the end of the parking lot made a sharp right hander uphill off camber as usual and then entered a faster slalom all the way back to the finish. Of course it wasn't a simple slalom or anything, it had lane changes and stuff but technically it was a huge slalom. As we all know my car snap oversteers after about 2 transitions because of all the worn bushings and I can't keep up. I managed not to spin it until the fun runs but I was consatanly jabbing the brakes to settle the rear again which cost me lots of time. My fastest run would have probably yielded me 3rd place had I not picked up a cone, so I'm forced to settle for 4th. I was smacked down by a G-stock cooper s, a miata that must have added superglue to his 17" tires and of all things a stock as a rock Mazda 6. Some title defense, huh? I think immediately after Christmas the e30 will go on a vacation to Imports Only cause it's pretty tired.

Don showed up and equally had troubles with the course. I finally got to ride with him and man am I impresed with that car, not to mention his driving. He wasn't to happy with his performance but I was amazed. S200's pretty much owned the course. Randy in the yellow s2000 bolted on R compunds for the first time and put Garret in his place!!!!!!!!! Randy took first in AS with Garret a close second. Jay of course won DSP with the 944 and the integra type r running pro now. He put down some fast times too. Lateral grip must have been the lesson for the day because the gap between street tires and R compunds was more than 2 seconds, it was actually closer to 3.

JByrd will probably post later and give his opinion because I don't remember where he stood in placing. Overall I saw 2 E36 M3's, a z3 coupe 3.0, Don's M roadster, mine and Jay's e30's, a 320i, JByrd's z3 and Matt's 2002. Nice BMW turnout. Wish you guys could have made it.

Sounds like a fun event. Ive got some things I need to do to the Z before I can get it back on course next season.

Oh BTW Mike...those Subframe bushings wont work on my car. They fit, but I wont be able to reach the bolthead to tighten them. The Z3 ones are slightly different. :(

Darn, oh well. I'll sell them to somebody then. I think I've officially given up on doing it myself. I think I'll take it all to the shop and drop it off now.

LoL. Why dont you just tackle it yourself...its really not that hard...just tedious stuff. I'll be ordering mine after christmas or so and then doing them sometime in Jan before the season starts.

to do subframe bushings, go buy 2 cans of pb blaster, take one, punch hole in it with sharp object, then throw under rear of car, the next morning take the other can and spray anything that didnt get hit, because that will proably have to come out anyways. once everything is off, replace bushing, try to remember what went where and tighten it all back down again and you are done.

Yesterday we had great weather and a challenging course that at first looked to be very easy. I don't think that Mike and I were the only ones to struggle with the course, workers very busy shagging cones the entire event. Mike described the course accurately. Fast slalom type course with few slow areas.

Thanks to Mike's help, I was able to drop a second off my time and became much smoother on my last run. I was able to do a little better in the fun runs, too bad we couldn't get seven runs instead of five. :D

I was shocked at how differently Mike's car drives compared to mine. Mike took me for a ride in the fun runs and he had the car much more sideways than I do mine. My car won't tolarate that much sideways action, at least with me driving.

Overall a great day as I learned a lot from the course and from Mike. Wish everone could have made it!

Looking forward to next year.

I think I may attend the school this year. Byrd usually teaches so I figure it couldnt hurt to pick up a few more pointers.

Usually the SC school is in Charleston, and I don't make it to that one. Stuart K should be there though, and that's worth the trip.

I typically start teaching at the CCR Novice school in Feb....date tba later/

how do the prices run for schools like this?

JByrd
12-08-2006, 04:36 AM
I think the CCR school is like $30 or $40 or something close to that.

Morning classroom
Lunch
On Course runs

All included.

It could be slightly more, but not much more than that. Definitely a great experience. Ed Brackney is the class room instructor, and he's one of the best around. Probably one of the few who was around this sport when I first started.

I will definitely post it here when announced, but it is usually in the first 2 weeks of February.
