i bought my 92 e36, and realized that the car has a 40% tint all around. it has become purple and bubbly, and needs to be removed and replaced with a 20% tint. im just wondering if there are any good shops in the cleveland area that can detint/retint for a decent price. thanks alot

If you are forced to do this yourself.. Here's a good trick to take it off easily.

If it's the regualr film+glue combo, first, rip off the film. It's a pain but try to get it all off in one piece, or chunks as large as you can, it'll save you time.

Once you have the film off, you are left with an annoying layer of glue. To get this off, use a mix of soapy water, and use steel wool to gently "rub it out". The wool will fill with the glue so you will have to use quite a few of them or continue to fold/rip the pieces apart to get unused portions exposed. If you can, soak the glue in the mix to soften it up some.. If you can't remove the glass and lay it flat, you can just spray it on and let it sit for 10-20 min before you get started with the wool rubbin'.

I don't know of any shops in the Cleveland area, but I know of a couple in the Columbus are  There's a new "Great Lakes regional" forum that might be a better place to post this.

Hi Vankiller,
Try AutoAccents (http://www.autoaccents.com). Good luck!

then I would first use goo gone to remove glue before going to steel wool, goo gone works good just let it sit, gojo also can work if you have it handy.

It's very Easy.

Ammonia. Such products as Windex with Ammonia will do the trick. All you have to do is take a razor blade and tear off a corner to start the pealing process and then spray windex between the cracks as you peal it down. It will come off like butter.

Good luck
By the way if you plan on getting tint on your car again, I recommend getting 3M film. No matter what anyone says, 3M film is the best. After all who has more money to invest in research in such products, some little film company or 3M? Not to mention, I am a happy 3M customer in the blistering Florida weather. Having gone through 3 different manufacturers (Llumar, Quantum, SunGuard), 3M is the best.

I'll copy this over to your regional forum where you may get more help since this is a non-e36 specific question. :)

Didn't you read the rules? Don't Drink and Post! :D

Happy Holidays!
