another question. Don't want to make a thread out of it.. but:

MY Porter Cable didn't cmoe with any velcro backing plate... would I have to buy it?

do you think I can get it from a nearby lowe's or something? or I must get it online? cuz I had planned to do my car over the TG break.

See your thread on the Backing plate........

S100 durability sucks? WHAT???? It has been on my car since I detailed it in April. I just recently did another full detail (Nov 4 & 5) and reapplied. It looked great before and now after. I figure about 8 months is a pretty good amount of time for any wax to last. I know I should have put another coat on after about 6 months but I didn't really have time and the car still looked good.

It one of the best waxes I have evr used. If you read one of the posts that were searched for you, you will see that I posted about how good it makes the black trim look! After all the time I spent trying to turn the trim black again all it took was a simple mistake for me to discover that the s100 is all I needed!

What do you mean by trim?

The black trim. Door trim, between the windows, the bumper srtips...the trim.

I used the s100 not a polish on them.

No kidding, on the black between the front and rear doors/windows? I have asked others about this trim before and how to treat it, as I could not even figure out what type of surface it was to treat... everything else on my car has been spotless except for those strips, but I guess now I have a solution! :buttrock

from MY experience, i've had bad luck on the durability, as compared to all the other products i've tried. ALMOST every detailer that i've talked to would use p21 if it is a short term thing, but we detailers are more into durability, or if better durability with shine. IMHO, I like s100 for the first few weeks, then the PROTECTION starts diminishing. It doesn't bead evenly, so i would have to recoat. I don't mind doing it, but i'm just saying that it should not last for 8 months, unless you garage it and not let it out at all. It's unheard of to have a wax last 8 months. Even a SEALANT does not last for that long... Klasse goes for about 6 months, meguairs #21 goes for about 5-6 months, and those are used for Professionals. But hey, if it lasts for you, great, keep using it. I wouldn't count on it for durability when there's much better options out there for the price.

here's s100
what i do normally is Klasse All In One paint cleaner--> 2 coatsKlasse Sealant Glaze (12 hr cure between both wiping off immediatly--> 2-3 coats S100

The s100 by itself usually isnt very durable unless appied in 2-3 coats. The Acrylic Klasse SG underneith the s100 makes the wax incredibly durable. When i do the full process i normally remove all the moldings on the car so i dont need to worry about changing the way they look. While they're off the car its a good time to use peanut butter oil on em to restore them to like new.

You are correct I use 3 coats of the Klass SG 24 hours between coats, then 3 coats of s100. I guess that maybe my comparison isn't that fair as mine is garaged and only driven 2 - 3 times a week. Heck it has less than 40,000 miles on it right now! It rarely sees any rain and snow only if I have no other choice like I get caught in it.

No carnuba wax lasts for 8months, or even 6 for that matter. It will last only 1-2 months MAX.

I have had Meguiars #26 on my car (with #21 under it) for almost 8 months and the water is still beading like crazy. Infact I took a pic of it tonight which I will post later. Its been 8 months, and I've washed it like 6 times since I detailed it. It also sits outside, in the Florida sun. Its crazy, I know.

I have had Meguiars #16 go a solid 5-6 months with solid, tight beading with nothing but #7 under it.

I have had Collinite paste last an entire Chicago winter (six months with only one wash on a daily driver). When I washed away the road salt and grim in the spring, the water still beaded like new and the gloss was still there. And that had 3m's Pink FillnGlaze under it.

I agree that Carnuba isn't supposed to last that long, but I have seen it happen.

How do you remove the moldings on an E36?
