I am trying to decide between a Lexus GX and the X5. I have owned Toyota, Lexus and BMW in the past and BMWs are definitely more fun to drive but they come with maintenance issues (or at least mine did).

What can I expect in the way of maintenance on an x5? Is there a difference in reliability between the 3.0 and the 4.4 or 4.8?

Just guessing but

GS maint will be 1 visit per yr for $500.00 (oil, filter, etc)
X5 maint will be 1 visit per yr for $0.00 (oil, filter, etc)

GS repair will be 0 visit per yr for $0.00
X5 repair will be 1 visit per yr for $0.00

Didn't have any problems in the 5 years I had my X5 3.0 except for the window regulators which were replaced under warranty. I would still go with the X5 rather than a 4Runner in a tuxedo that's trying to look like the SUV-for-grandpa Land Cruiser/LX.
