Hey all,

I apologize if this question has been asked before; I looked through the forum and couldn't really find anything. I'm interested in doing some simple, easy mods to my 2000 528 Touring as a way to get started on what I hope will be a long career in tweaking 5 series machines. :-) I have some mechanical skill, and experience modifying domestic V8 EFI motors, but don't have access to tools, lifts, or garage space (beyond my own). For now, I guess, I am interested in appearance and easier engine performance tuning mods, and then I'll see how those go and maybe step it up as I get more savvy and experience.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Personalize the car the way YOU want. BMW has pretty much tweaked the 2.8 for street use. I’d do software upgrades to engine and trans and leave it at that. You could do intakes and or exhausts but they yield little, cost a lot, and jeopardize resale. The next steps are $$$: manifolds, cams, etc. which will cost you low end torque – not good if you’re automatic trans, leave a lone a wagon. FI? Read the FI boards and get out you’re wallet.
As for appearance, suit yourself; maybe a medium tint, small front air dam, but most of all, just keep it really clean, because often times, less is more.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think at this time I'll start with some of the appearance-type things, like clear signal indicators, a shark-fin antenna, maybe wheels and tires, and some software upgrades. I agree that less is definitely more. I'm not looking to totally revamp the look of the car, because, frankly, it's already a showstopper.

Eibach sway bars, front and rear. You'll love the way it handles.

I have a set of brand new OEM clear side markers for the E39 (ones that go on the fender). I think you have the amber ones. Let me know if you are interested. Make me an offer.
