View Full Version : Buying an 01 540, so the Jetta has to go, know anyone?
If this post doesn't belong here, just let me know. I am going to be picking up a 2001 540i sport in about two weeks and need to sell my 2003 Jetta Wolfsburg. It is in great shape with 43000 miles. I am asking $14,000. If you know anyone in the market, please shoot me an email at qposnerATyahooDOTcom. It is in Vancouver, WA.
Thanks, and I am looking forward to joining your ranks!
Quinn
Joey Link 11-15-2006, 03:10 AM Very good choice! I'm sure you're going to love it. Auto or 6-speed?
6 speed. Sport and cold weather package. Silver on black. 60k miles with 6 mo of CPO warranty left. Radiator, hoses, mounts already replaced as preventative maintainence. New tires. All service records. $24.5k. A little higher than I wanted, but I will pay the extra $1000 for the peace of mind knowing it was properly cared for and the colling system work is done! It will need new pads and rotors in about 10k miles, but I can do that myself. Thoughts?
cbouchez 11-15-2006, 03:00 PM oh man very nice! That's what I want. I think I'll be selling my e36 next year and get a 540i 6 speed.

As long as you didn't have to travel far to get it I'd say you're getting a good deal. 2001+ models are preferred because of the updated bumpers and Xenon's, which make a HUGE difference. It's always worth it to pay more for a car with records, especially with 540's. They can be extremely reliable or they can be money pits if not properly maintained. Sounds like you found an excellent example :)
Landerholm 11-15-2006, 04:40 PM Congrats! Now you can join the V8 11MPG city club :(
MPG was not in the equation for me. I figure I need to buy gas anyhow, why worry about it.
Also, it distance isn't that far. The car is in Seattle and I am in Vancouver. I am from the Seattle area and still have family there. Plus, I race sports cars in SCCA and Conference. By coincidence, so does the seller so I tend to trust the car.
Eastside Bavarian just called and said the car is "exceptional". The only deficiencies are worn front door seals, approx 10k miles left of the brakes, sterring column is a bit noisy (needs lube), and ps fluid needs to be changed at inspect 2. Only thing left is to arrange a time to meet the seller along I5.
cbouchez 11-17-2006, 08:03 PM Nice post some pics as soon as you get her home.
mitchelrl 11-17-2006, 09:28 PM 540's do fine on the highway.
Will do. I just need to figure out how to post pics. Do I need a URL?
Jetta just sold! 540 tomorrow!
