Atnan 11-14-2006, 07:28 PM hey guys, alright my friend wants to sell me his 01 bmw 325ci and i wanted to know if possible if you guys could help me out a lil! first off the car has 130,000 miles on it, its seems to be in perfect shape thou! the body is mint and hes willing to sell it for 11,000! is this a good deal? are these cars any relaible after those miles? is it worth it? i currently have a e38 which is amazing, iam just looking for a small 3 series with this body, please help, thanks in advance
ping65810 11-14-2006, 08:32 PM Thats sound decent, but keep in mind I just bought an 01 325Ci auto, leather, premium pack, etc. 78k miles, brand new tires, etc and I only paid $13k, so 11k does sound a little high. Than again, in my area (New England), BMW 3 series are a dime a dozen, and they usually go for less money as a result.
avs2006 11-14-2006, 09:11 PM I bought my 02 325 Ci for 11k, and it had 89k and change on it. Didn't have sport package, HK sound, or changer.
Smilez@EuroDyne 11-14-2006, 09:52 PM i bought my 2002 325i with 49k for 14900...lot less mileage than what u looking at to me i say keep looking u can probably find something with less mileage but of course a lil bit more pricey...

A private seller in Manasquan. I was searching through the papers for about 2 months looking for a Monte Carlo SS or a Mustang GT, and saw that BMW, and thought it looked really cheap. Went and took a look at it, did some research, and decided it was the right buy.
Let's not get into the problems at the MVC, though... Let me in but wouldn't process my paperwork, lazy government workers.
scrace89 11-15-2006, 03:56 PM thats a shit load of miles for an 01' i have an 01 and it only has 66k
ping65810 11-15-2006, 11:47 PM That is not a shitload of miles for any 2001!!! I used to sell cars, for two years, and people are driving a lot more than 12k miles a year now. In fact, most people are b/t 15-20k miles per year. Figure on an 2001, that went into service most likely late 2000, thats 6 years. 20k miles per year = 120k miles, so that isn't too bad.
LeftCoastBias 11-16-2006, 03:06 AM christ, that's a lot of miles.
my 91 MBZ 190e has less than that.
is the tranny an auto? if so, chances are the ATF's never been changed (or just as bad- only been changed when bmw's marketing dept recommends)... and if that's the case, you better consider into your purchase price the cost of replacing a busted tranny in the next few miles...
ping65810 11-16-2006, 03:53 PM Why does everyone think 130k is so high?? My last 2 3 series both had well over 200k on them, my work truck has 160k, the plow truck has 180k on it, etc. Nowadays 130k isn't that bad.

it's just a lot in a very short period of time.
It seems like an aweful lot of miles. Even if well maitained, thats like 20K+ per year, and there are many things that could be ready to fail. I know I have over 225K on my 99 Dodge turck, but I drive the tar out of it. The average for MOST folk is still in the 12-15K / year range. But, it is an attractive price. Have a mechanic check it out, and then if you like it, but it.
r2, 3 dude 11-17-2006, 06:22 AM how much is it to drain and replace the ATF? i'm betting my car's previous owner neglected it. I will do inspection II in 6k miles, should i wait? dont know if its included in the Inspection II price, etc.

it's not included, and you should do it at the same time, and then every 20k miles or so...
avs2006 11-17-2006, 01:48 PM Actually, I am rather curious as to how much it would be for fluid and any extra supplies required. Also, would it be difficult for me to do it myself?
I am currently unable to access the DIY site that's parked, so any DIY's out there that are good?

www.e46fanatics.com has some great DIY's.... the rest of the site kinda sucks, but the DIY's are fabulous.
if you didn't do it yourself, expect to pay about 200ish...

Thanks very much; I'm probably going to end up doing it myself, save a bit of money, and make sure that it is done to my standards, and I like to have control...
Remember that BMW uses synthetic transmission fluid, and get the right filter and gasket for your model (There should be a sticker on the transmission itself that id's your transmission). Also, there is no fill tube in the engine compartment like american cars, you have to fill it from under the car. It is not hard to do, just time consuming. I got mine done for about 125$ labor, and then parts. (I prefer to use Amsoil ATF) Just my .02.
Atnan 11-18-2006, 06:20 PM alright guys, thanks for all the help!
