Figured I'd ask here first since I know you guys the best. As a few of you know, my roommate Jon bought Joe's e24. He loves the thing, but the trans is slipping during acceleration. Happens till roughly 40 mph then it's fine. I thought the cause was a low level of ATF, but we put a quart in and it didn't make a difference. Anyone have an idea how to fix this? Jon won't have a lot of extra money to spare till he sells his '01 Eclipse 'vert, so a manual swap is sort of out of the question till then.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing when my father and I drove that car a few months ago. I really cant say why it was slipping when we drove it, but it really wasnt that bad. Sounds like since we drove it, the problem as become worse...Maybe it was all the burnouts and donuts we did in downtown Winchester...:)

It's not that bad on flat ground, but the subdivision we're in is on a bit of an incline so that isn't helping the situation at all. We're gonna try some more fluid and see if it helps at all. If all else fails, could anyone give me a ballpark figure on how much a manual trans swap would cost?

I would probally estimate from $900 to $1500 if you do it all yourself. Im sure Ely can probally give you a better estimate than I can. Im sure you can probally find a good useable tranny pretty easily.

ya we spent about $800 in parts doing my dad's 89 325i. Slipping is usually a sign of the tranny going bad. happened to my dad's 89, at first it would slip when cold, then it lost reverse, then it lost all gears.
